day 3 - are you ready for some football (treats)?

I was going to a superbowl watching party and it was requested that I make these peanutbutter/chocolate wonderfuls called buckeyes. so i obliged!

sometimes when i make them i try and make them look like footballs, but that is a lost cause, they all turn out different shapes and are equally delicious and sinful

<i forgot to take pictures during the process, which involves having my hands covered in pb and chocolate, so i snapped a couple after the party, when i only had the one left that i left at home, it turned out looking more like a reese’s than a buckeye. oh well.

Thing 3

We celebrate everything about the Superbowl (eating snacks, drinking beer, watching TV) except for the part where we watch the game! This was our vegetarian chili feast last night, I’ll try to post the recipe later.

Super Day

The football season is officially over (although as a Packer fan, my season ended two weeks ago). Can’t say I’m disappointed with today’s outcome. :-)

I was originally going to work on another icon for today, but decided to take inspiration from “current events” instead.

The trophy is the Vince Lombardi trophy, named after the great Packer coach, Vince Lombardi. One of his notable quotes, which I must keep in mind during thing-a-day this month is, “Perfection is not attainable. But if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence.”

Post-Superbowl Stuff I Made Wrap-Up

YEHES! Oh New York Giants, I knew you had it in you.

On a “Daily Thing” note, my aforementioned vegetarian chili and Lu’s 4 Layer Texican Dip were a total touchdown. Also note that my homemade Superbowl shirt (Project 2) was accurate in its prediction.

Tomorrow it is back to my finger painted valentine’s.

Nightey night.

Day 3 (2/2) - Super Nachos & “Mushroom Delight”

Hi Friends–

Watching the SuperBowl needs Super Nachos (obviously).  Here’s a pic of this beautiful food…  Ingredients:  Tortilla chips, cheese, chili with beans, lettuce, fresh jalepenos,  sour cream, salsa.

Mushroom Delight:  Mushrooms sauteed in olive oil and Balsamic vinegar, put onto bread toasted with a little olive oil, salt, pepper, onion powder.  Sorry I don’t have a pic of these (hope the raw mushooms are good enough), but they were all gone by the time I thought to snap a shot.

I’m still visiting friends in the Bean; pics to come when I return home.

superbowl sunday stuffie

although i’m not a football fan, i made a football stuffie in honor of superbowl sunday:

it’s the first time i’ve ever made a stuffie before (i’ve been wanting to start), and it was much more challenging than i realized it would be. i had a hard time visualizing the correct shapes to cut that, when sewn together would form a football. i’d originally intended it to be much rounder than a regular football even, but it turned out to be flatter. still, i’m happy with the final result. the face reminds me of an eel somehow, i’m not sure why (my husband says it doesn’t). it was also kind of inspired by uglydolls, so i guess i can call it an uglyball?

here are some preliminary drawings that i made:

Correspondence Theme Suspended: Superbowl Food!

I am posting mid-food prep, because once all is said and done, I am off to watch the superbowl, get indigestion, come home, and go to sleep. I am making my vegetarian chili and Lu’s 4 Layer Texican Dip!

Vegetarian Chili:

18oz soy crumbles

1 large can crushed tomatoes

1 large sweet onion chopped

2-3 cloves garlic minced

15 oz. can chili beans or red kidney beans drained

2 tbsp. mexican chili powder

1 tsp. cumin

2 tbsp. tomato paste

shredded cheddar, diced avocado, and sour cream

Mix all ingredients except for into a slow cooker shredded cheddar, diced avocado, and sour cream and let cook, and cook, and cook on low. Everyone adds shredded cheddar, diced avocado, and sour cream to their liking. Fries or tortilla chips make for tasty company.

Lu’s Vegetarian 4 Layer Texican Dip!

I made this recipe today and have not eaten it yet. It is very much based on the Texan Bean Dip in What’s Cooking America will let you know tomorrow if you should bother recreating it!

Layer 1

15 oz. can vegetarian refried beans

1 cup cheddar cheese

1 tbsp. minced onions

Combine minced onions, cheese, and beans and heat through so it is nice and hot and the cheese is all melted in. Spread evenly in serving dish.

Layer 2

2 avocados

2 tbsp. lemon juice

a handful of finely chopped cilantro

a big pinch of sea salt

black pepper to taste

Mush, mush, mush it all up in a bowl. Spread it evenly on top of the first layer.

Layer 3

1 cup sour cream (I chose fat free because I plan to eat this dip like a pig at a trough)

1/2 tsp. of cayenne pepper

Mix it up. Baby, baby mix it up. Spread evenly on top of the avocado layer.

Layer 4

a whole lot of diced tomato (I used up whatever grape tomatoes I had on hand - about 1 dry pint - and I think more would be better)

6 oz. can of black pitted olives sliced

1 cup chopped green onion

sliced jalapenos to your liking

Sprinkle these evenly across the top to make your final layer. Serve immediately with tortilla chips! Eat. Nap.

Correspondence Theme Suspended: Superbowl Shirt!

I was focusing on correspondence as a theme but I am a football fan and a New Yorker. Every year I make a quick n’ dirty Superbowl t-shirt, but this year it was very important to do so. I quickly created a stencil using the stencil font on my computer, a manila folder, and an exacto knife. I then used a sponge brush and blue silk screening ink to stipple. It is now drying.

check mii out contest

today i made a mii (from nintendo’s wii) for the ‘check mii out’ channel’s weekly contest and submitted it. the theme was ‘biggest football fan’:

he’s supposed to look like he’s wearing a crazy hat (the horn looking things are eyebrows that were raised) and has face paint (glasses that were lowered), but i’m not sure how well it works… i used this image for inspiration—but i think i tried to be too specific and didn’t really convey what i intended. i probably should’ve tried to make something more like what one would think of a generic sports fan…

i also took pictures of other mii’s that i’ve made and/or contributed to and added them to my flickr page
