thing-a-day no. the last!

I thought I would end thing-a-day with a true-to-life self-portrait, and drawing of a friend. I’m the nose-ringed miscreant on the left. On the right is fellow poster and secret furry Calvin. HAHAHAHAH

Bye everyone, I really enjoyed reading and commenting on your posts

TAD from the Road: Miami Day 2

Oh my goodness, I love being in Miami. I made another hair clip in my hotel room this evening. I used part of Bryan Brutherford’s eames a day image.

eames hair clip

Thanks B.B. I think this will look way cuter as a pendant on a slightly tough chain. I will take that project on in March.

It is at this point that I must thank my most splendiforous, genorsity-havingest, mother for a wonderful time in Miami, for photographing my hair clips and for lending me her super-sweet underwater Minox underwater digital camera so I could take self-portraits of myself in the pool. I got in touch with my inner-mermaid. Here is one; let us call it Bubbles.

yarny

A handspun yarn, I’m not sure what kind of wool it is, since I’ve lost the tags long ago.

And another photo collage, this time a self portrait.

A few self-portraits. Basically self-explanatory. I was playing with light. It was the wee hours of the morning so I was still in darkness, mainly, except for candlelight and computer light. I’ve done much better but eh.

Not much to say about this except that the resemblance was rendered masterfully.

3:00-3:15 self portrait

Day One of Thing-A-Day: it’s an intro of sorts. I was distracted at work, so I drew this quick self-portrait from 3 to 3:15.

Self Portrait, day 1

Self Portrait

Self Portrait at 36. This is the first self-portrait I’ve done in 12 years, first head-only in probably 20 years. I like the hair and the nose and the head shape, but the eyes are a bit odd. Eyes in self portraits are always a bit odd.

Paradise By The Refrigerator Lights Self Portrait

my friend started a flickr group called paradise by the refrigerator lights in which you take a portrait using the refrigerator as a light source. i tried a couple of self portraits for my first thing-a-day:

the images are clickable and will take you to my flickr page… for more detail about how i shot and manipulated these photos, please see my blog.

master paintings

i decided i would use february “thing-a-day” to fulfill a goal i’ve had for more exposure to master painters and to experiment (badly) with watercolor. while each day’s activities may vary, master painters and my own clumsy watercolor technique will usually be involved. i may do some poetry or other writing around this work during the month, as well.

today, i discovered louis khela maqhubela and an untitled piece he painted (mixed media) in 1975. i used water colors to do my own version of it and then to create a self portrait based on the original art. here’s a cluster of three pieces (maqhubela’s original is in the upper right corner). to see complete views of what i painted today, go see my post.
