Incomplete Friends
Two sketches today, in a feeble attempt to make up for the days I’ve missed. The first is of my friend Angie and I (I’m on the right) and the second of my friend Alyssa. I’d link the references, but I’m pretty sure they’re not on the internet.

Making up
I actually did a few things today. I decorated a shirt for my friend Daz’s birthday, and also took some really nice pictures of her birthday party. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the only camera in my house, so I couldn’t take a picture of shirt after I made it this morning, and I took the pictures at the party with her camera. XP I think she’ll like them though.
Anyway, I did a sight drawing so I would have something to show for today. Unfortunately, my scanner likes to darken things. Those background sketch lines are less visible in real life. Reference.
Thing 15 - Shy
tonight i’m tired!
i’m glad to be making things every day…

I made dinner too; mackerel, rice, broccoli rabe. it hit the spot.
But i was so hungry i forgot to take a photo of it. mm mmm.
Mmm… candy!

Title: Mmm… candy!
Description: Homer Simpson portrait done in gummy candies
Inspirations: Today is National Gumdrop Day and Matt Groening’s birthday (1954)
J. M. Coetzee
A portrait of one of my favorite wordsmiths and thinkers, J. M. Coetzee. I’ve been loving his writing even more than usual lately.
clones
today i made clones of myself:
i have made these before and find them to be fascinating to look at, as well as fun to make. the idea is to take a portrait, preferably one that is shot from the front and evenly lit—you might have to rotate the picture a little if the head is tilted. then split the photo in half and flip each side horizontally and match to the corresponding side—so 2 right halves to form one face and 2 left halves to form another. most people will have a dominant side that has stronger, bigger features, and a less dominant side that will look more sensitive. here are some more clones that i have made of myself in the past.
Things 10 - Hair and Big-Butt-Rhino
Today i made 2 drawings as my things of the day - the dude has big hair and the rhino always walks downhill.

Funny Face.
Sight drawing of this. Despite the facial distortion (i.e. the head and eyes are way too big) I really like how it came out.

P.S. That’s a peach in the corner, not an apple. I usually color it in, which makes it easier to tell.
Thing 8 - Silly Toy
This thing of today is a silly toy designed to contort the appearance of the guy in the image - you shake the picture gently and change the shape of the nose.
Here are 2 shots:

trainwreckin
so this dude http://www.thing-a-day.com/author/rowstyles/ has been putting up some mad dope fonts for days.. which in turn made me want to do the same. Unfortunately all I got is this one sad little guy:
And even more tragic- I tried neopastels for the first time on a portait with disasterous results. The garish neon bright colors I had to choose from didn’t help any as I attempted to approximate skin tones. All that being said, here she is anyway:
Finally, I put Margaret in a sweater mostly to amuse myself. She, on the other hand, doesn’t look amused at all. Since this was probably my most successful attempt at anything the whole damn night I think I’ll post it:
Thing 7 - Drawing

the days go by and i don’t have so much time to make stuff. i think she looks vaguely russian…
Day 6

A portrait of my fake pet rabbit Freddie sitting in a table. I like the way his paw is supposed to be posed like he’s grooming himself but instead it looks like he’s waving it towards himself in a “come on, yeah come on, I could take you” motion. Freddie has swagger and style.

faces of the moment.
