Day 28 of 29: Penultimate day …

As promised … I glued the donuts to the plates.  Here they are w/ Proj. Hot Patio proof and butter for the toast.

And here’s the cleaned-up toast.  Butter glued tomorrow.

I’ll miss this everyday spur to Thing.  I won’t quit.  Tonight’s TADpr (Thing-a-Day Psyching Rock):

“Bites + Remission” and “12-inch Anthology” both by Skinny Puppy.

Peace out!!  -jhj

Painted Paper Beads

My paper beads were dry enough today to paint so I decided to try a few experiments with the colors. I started three separate groups of them, two of which were metallic color paints (solid copper and silver splashes on a black background) and the other group being a Spring pink and green. The metallic ones seem to have taken on an outer space feel to them for some reason, and Adam said the pink and green beads reminded him of colored marshmallows from Lucky Charms or crunchberries from Captain Crunch.

Apocalypse Stencil - Thing 21

This image comes from the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Durer). It was conceived to be a 4 color separation using 4 stencils. Well it turned out that i only had silver and bronze spray paint when i went to view my handiwork, so the effect is rather… odd… anyway, i think it holds some promise, for when i have some other colors and with a little refinement. i’d been working on the stencils over a few days, and was excited to make my proof today… alas, it was not as exciting as it could have been with more colors.

Day 20 - Painted Beads and Slices

I started painting the little lentils from yesterday. The ‘paint’ is actually coloured liquid clay and these are the 3 larger lentils as try outs. The smaller ones are for a project and I will use a paintbrush instead of a toothpick so they look less like scrambled eggs.

Painted Beads

And because I was productive today, I made two more canes, a blue flower and a blue rose.

Canes

I got a little mini tripod for my digital camera today. I could kick myself for not doing that years ago. Made the low light / bumped up white / macro pics much simpler!

complete your own fertility-shrine kit

This TAD is a special order for a friend. She wrote, “If you have any openings in your craft calendar for the rest of the month, I would totally love some sort of fertility/get my mojo back craft!” My friend has been trying to conceive and recently experienced a miscarriage. Understandably, she has felt out of sorts, angry and a deep sense of sadness. Immediately I knew I wanted to make her something that would allow her to focus on positive thoughts for her future. It is my belief that this sort of focus will help her restore her aforementioned mojo. It is always a good idea to have one’s mind (mojo) jive with one’s body (fertility). I also know she has a penchant for religious art. My friend is a prime candidate for a shrine.

But you cannot make a shrine for someone else - it is a deeply personal item. So I thought I would get her started by creating the exterior along with ideas and tips for filling it.

I knew I wanted to incorporate the image of a pomegranate, because that is my favorite symbol of fertility and I thought my friend would really like it as well. I also wanted to give the shrine a similar feel as to my Hugh Hefner tribute candle, minus the camp. So I used aluminum foil and incorporated a candle. When I pictured the structure itself it became clear to me, that my best bet was to get my hands on a wooden cigar box.

Today (after my semi-annual trip to the dentist) I headed to a fancy-schmancy cigar store (in my dentist’s neighborhood) in search of the perfect box. Now, I can be pretty fancy-schmancy myself, but I was intimidated by this store because I am a 29 year old woman looking for empty cigar boxes, not a 56 year old man looking for expensive cigars. But my worrying was for naught. The clerk was super nice. He led me into the humidor, showed me a pile of boxes and kindly told me to take whatever I wanted. I selected two lovely wooden boxes - one for me and one for my friend’s shrine. What a score!

After I put my daughter to bed, I began work on the shrine and could not stop. I used craft glue, Krazy Glue, acrylic paint, a glossy copy of my favorite pomegranate image, shiny paper, a metal flower and precisely 1 rhinestone. I managed to complete my part of the shrine. I just have to package it up with instructions and tips. That will be tomorrow’s TAD.

So many things

here is the weekend round up:

Thing 16: water color pencils. I last played with them in middle school. Which is where my drawing ability stayed…grade 6. Fun to break out water colors with the girls, though.

Thing 16

Thing 17, Cooking!
I made so much good food over the weekend, and forgot to take photos of the excellent presentation. But there is evidence, in the fridge!

Thing 17

Thing 18, my favorite

after everyone went home, my brain was quite tired. I got a new crochet book, and I like my stitches even better. Reading directions, who knew?

Yesterday & Today

So today, I painted another pair of my circulation socks with a heart-theme and organized a cupboard (may not look like it, but should’ve seen the before). I also included an update of my cross-stitch, which is looking more and more like it’s supposed to everyday. Happy Valentine’s Day, all!

Day 10 - edge, again

No pictures since I was just testing out a new squirrel mop brush I bought (splurged) on - I painted lines of various thicknesses to test out the versatility of the brush (got some nice fine lines with it), did a couple wet on wet splotches, nothing I’d really want to show.

Day 4

I only finished one page of this today, but I am still filling pages…all the same. I dream someday when it is done, people will read it in the bathroom when they poop in the morning, and tell their friends about it while they are eating lunch.

Sunday Break: Wall Painting

Today I am painting my apartment with help from a friend. All these walls were white in the morning and now are various shades of green and red. Not on my current theme, but I’m taking advantage of the fact that Sunday has historically been a day of rest.
