So long and thanks for all the things

Made it to the last day and made this acrylic-and-paper mobile I’ve had in mind for a while. It’s been a great month. Thanks to everyone for the inspiration and motivation!

Day 6 - mobile of terra cotta pots

I saw these tiny terra cotta pots (they’re a tad bigger than a thimble) and thought they were cute. Today I made them into a mobile, using twine, an embroidery hoop, wooden beads, and some satin ribbon.

Day 4: Photography Mobile

I decided to do something with my stacks of darkroom remnants - those prints that for whatever reason were slightly flawed and unusable.   So I cut up and folded the photos into cubes, strung them on fishing wire, and behold- a mobile.   Usually photo handling is so finicky lest you get a speck of dust or a smudge somewhere, so this was very satisfying  - I rubbed my grubby little fingers all over this project.  And maybe this little mobile will age with yellowed fingerprints, but isn’t that more interesting than having a pristine picture sitting inside a vacuum-sealed frame?

mobile-thing-a-day

Hola everyone,

So since last year (when I utterly failed to participate at all) I’ve relocated to Seattle.   I’ll be traveling for most of February; Portland, NYC & the Bay Area, so I’m hoping to settle on a good mobile activity for the month.

My money is on sketches, everything from notebook entries to napkins and bits of paper packaging.  I’m thinking of a loose comic style narrative involving darling little robots with hopeless ideas about inventions and machines.  Maybe some time travel.  But we’ll see…
