Oh dang.

Inspired by these fabric letters I bought at Anthropologie:

I decoupaged some wooden letters with some of the new scrapbook paper I picked up in Berkeley last weekend:

I worked on it while I was watching the Oscars which was a good thing because the awards were pretty boring.

makin’ beets

I had some beets in the fridge and wanted to try some sort of food carving on ‘em, but there was nothing in the book I had, so I went literal:

I also tried a viking ship made out of a cucumber from the aforementioned book:

That ugly bird head with what looks like a mickey mouse hat on was my way of trying to recreate one of those dragon/ loch ness monsters you see on some old depictions of viking boats.. not so much.

But hey, it floats in water! (without the mast which is heavy and messes up it’s balance)

Week 2 catch up post….

I’ve been very lax about posting this week. I blame my boyfriend completely. I take absolutely no responsibility. Really, it’s his fault, he’s the one that kept turning on Law & Order…..But regardless, I have been doing stuff, and here it is….

more of my alphabet, letters C and E (C was a bitch, I HATE little tiny circles!) I skipped D because it was another complicated pattern and I didn’t really have time for it. Hopefully I’ll get to it this weekend…..but other factors may prevent me from being too active in crafting for the rest of the month (godDAMN my landlord! I hate moving!)

C E

Dessert for Valentine’s dinner made a day early. Based on Bakerella’s red velvet cake balls. My supermarket didn’t have red velvet cake mix, so I used strawberry. Note to self: never try to make a dessert involving small balls of something rolled in molten chocolate again, it’s just a pain in the butt (but oh-so delicious!)

Here’s the Valentine’s card that I made for my boyfriend. It’s hard to tell in this pic, but the words love are backed with red paper, the rest of the text is a dark brown, and the kisses are silver:

Valentine

And my final thing for this week was cooking Valentine’s dinner. I didn’t get any pictures of it before we ate, but my boyfriend did. Now all I have to do is try to pry the pictures out of his DSLR-baby. Now, where did my butterknife go, I wonder…… :)

DAY EIGHT - letter cookies

This weekend I have the pleasure of attending various events and performances to support my friends: USA States Dance Competition, and a friend playing Bernardo in West Side Story. I started baking cookies as their “good job” gifts, and ended up making a lot more than I had expected. I suppose these will become Valentine’s treats for my friends in the upcoming week.

I knew I wanted to make cut-out sugar cookies with lemon icing, but I wasn’t sure what shapes to use. Therefore, I ended up making small letter cookies of the initial of the cookie recipient. Lemon-y royal icing colored pale pink to be festive and bagged with a tag that says “A is for Alice” (or whatever the letter/name). They look kind of lumpy, haha.

Day 4–Rainbow Dreams

A few months ago, I found a set of metal letters on clearance at Target. Being the text junky that I am, I simply had to get them. Once I got home, I was delighted to find that the box was fairly heavy weight matte board. Then and there I decided I needed to collage it and it needed to be a rainbow. Cue letting it sit. And sit. And sit some more.

Blank Canvas

Today, I felt like playing with paper, so I pulled it back out and took a first pass. It’s a lot less elaborate than I initially envisioned, but I realized that too much more was going to seriously compete with the letters. The letters still need to be affixed. They are pretty heavy, so I’m thinking a heavy duty epoxy or something. But for now, step one is complete! Woot!

Looking Ahead

(We’re just going to ignore the fact that my crafting area looks like a hurricane hit.)

Valentine’s Day Letters

Today I wrote all of my friends Valentine’s Day letters. I’m going to mail them tomorrow. So nothing to show really for my effort, but I’m sure that my friends will appreciate finally getting some snail mail from me.

I can’t wait to send them off this week :)
Tomorrow… bunny rabbit !
