Day 25: The cross-stitch continues…

small5.jpgI didn’t have a chance to get into town today for more wool, so I continued with the cross-stitch I’ve been working on. It’s taking longer than I thought it would!

Smurfette. Fail.

smurfette.jpg

Oh well, not everything is a success.  I attempted a rather ambitious project today.  Ambitious for someone new to embroidery.  I tried to hand sew an image of Smurfette I copied by sewing directly onto the paper.I have no idea how long this project actually took me because I worked on it off and on in-between things all day, but it had to be more than an hour.  The stitches came out uneven especially in the barely visible white portions.  I had a hard time pulling the paper out, too, once it came to that point of the project.  The stitches looked good before I took the paper out, and I can’t help but wonder if pulling the paper out also affected those stitches.  Next time, trace paper or parchment and a much simpler design.  I also think the background was the biggest mistake.  I should have done white and stitched her dress, hat and shoes with black stitches.  D’oh!  Least I had fun doing the stitches.  That has to count for something.

Day 17: A long-standing project

p2170542.jpg

I’ve been working on this cross stitch since the summer. I thought I should spend a few mins this evening working on it, cos I hate starting new things when the old is still outstanding. Having said that, I do get easily bored. ;)

Thing 16. English Garden Sampler

I’ve had the flu, so all I could manage yesterday was a few stitches on my ongoing embroidery project, “English Garden Sampler,” designed by Teresa Wentzler. But, hey, I’m on the home stretch! Only one more band to go! Then all those endless beads….

Feb. 11: Embroidered dish towels

For Valentine’s Day for my mom, aunt and a co-worker, I took some clearance dish towels and embroidered them with big kissy lips courtesy of Jenny Hart’s Sublime Stitching patterns.

Of course, as my flu meds come to an end, I wrapped all three towels before taking a picture of them for this post. Classic! But trust me, they were cute.

Day 3: Milk Thistle Embroidery

Hand-embroidered quilt square # 2.   Milk thistle is kind of a spidery, weed-y looking plant, but beautiful in its way with all the white markings on the leaves.   I grow this stuff to make a liver tincture - wicked good hangover preventative.

Advice for first time visitors to Tokyo

Today it was suggested (jokingly) that a certain notorious phrase could be used as a slogan for clothing. Wafuku in particular.Tabi 1

As these were instructions I could follow, this is the first half of the phrase.

Peapod Embroidery

So, I’ve got grand visions for a botanically-inspired quilt, and this here is square number one! I absolutely love the background fabric…the dandelion puffs make me itch for springtime. Until then, I will be content embroidering peas and the like.
