i tried out the same tutorial that annie_22 posted about and tried yesterday:

there are some issues—like the fact that the border is jagged and there is a hard black edge. i would’ve worked on it more, but it’s late, and i need to get some sleep. i might try to tweak it some more later though… i learned some p-shop tricks that i didn’t know either, so that was cool… thanks for the tutorial, annie_22!

breakfast (eggs, toast, leftover vegetable jumble):

dinner (fried sausage wrapped in pancetta over citrusy pasta and more leftover vegetables):

and I turned this honeydew into a swan with a crooked tail full of melon balls which was pretty magical:

i baked another kahlua chocolate cake for my husband’s birthday. i was going to bake it last week but postponed it because i was sick all week. i photographed some eggs before i baked them:

My previous batch of beet eggs ran out around Christmas and I haven’t had time to make some more. So I took this opportunity during thing-a-day to make a fresh batch.
I hard-boiled 6 medium sized eggs and peeled them. Then I opened a jar of pickled beets, poured the juice in a pan and arranged the beets with the eggs. To the juice I added 150ml cider vinegar and half that in volume of sugar. Dissolved the sugar and simmered for 10mins. Once done I immediately poured the hot liquid over the eggs and closed the jar. Now I have to wait at least a week.
These eggs are delicious. Perfect with a salad or on a sandwich. I can’t believe I’m so addicted to them. Here’s an old pic of the purple eggs on a salad of peppers, tomatoes, avocado and some of the beets.

Lately, I’ve been exploring more of the food side of things. i bought a book on Charcuterie and a book on bread making. Now I have countless of weeks of enjoyment ahead of me.
Today was all about cooking.
I had some breakfast sausage that was waiting to be used. So I whipped up a nice little sausage/pepper/garlic quiche to start the morning off.

The highlight of the day was the finishing of the drying of my pancetta. I actually began the process about a month ago. But the drying and the unveiling of the project was today. Took it down from the hook and sliced it open.

Fried it up and ate a few pieces. Wheeee, I love pork.
My loaf of rye bread was next on the agenda.
