Day 1 and 2: Skull and snow(men)

Day 1 was a snow day, after we got 9 inches of snow dropped on us here in St. Louis. My roommate and I decided, it had been far too long since either of us had made a snowman, so we went out to the backyard to make one. However, the snow wasn’t really cooperating (too powdery), so we made a snow”creature” instead. See if you can figure out who it is:

I also made this little fellow from skull-a-day.com:

Sweatshirt/ T-shirt…attempt.

 Ok, so I really did do this yesterday, I just didn’t get a chance to photograph etc.  So I took this ultra huge sweatshirt and cut it and sewed it and cut it and sewed it and un-sewed it and re-sewed it…and it still looks really lame.  Any suggestions?  I like the graphic, so I want to make it cool…but I’m struggling.  Enjoy anyways.

Goodbye Day 1, Hello Day 2

I missed posting on Day 1. By the time I was finished my drawing it was nearing 1am, and my need for sleep was settling in. I managed to draw for about 40 minutes, you can tell I started to give up towards the end because the bottom just doesn’t seem to look right. I chose to draw because drawing is not my thing, I never really exclaimed “I love to draw”, in fact, it’s always been “Do I have to draw?”. It was also a little easier than pulling out all my other art supplies to make something else. Frankly, I don’t think it’s that bad for someone who doesn’t normally draw, and I think think it’s weird that it kind of looks like a face which was totally unintentional.

In Bloom

I'm still a bit iffy about the shoes.

I bought some super comfortable, super dull brown leather flats and for Day 1 decided to doll them up.

Very pleased because I was able to use all remaindered materials (felt, embroidery thread and buttons).

The shoes are still kind of townie-looking, but I like them a lot better.

Cell Phone Penguin Loves You! Day 1! Yay!

Cell Phone Penguin Loves You!

embedded by Embedded Video

And the Instructable slideshow

Today I made a penguin that alights in joy when your cell phone rings. Okay okay, maybe only when my cell phone rings. And maybe it doesn’t alight, but light up. And maybe I didn’t make the penguin at all… but I did make it light up when my cell phone rings.

It uses an Arduino, an AQV210EH low-voltage relay and a hacked cell phone vibrating alert. It was a good excuse to figure out the Arduino, but I still rather use a PIC.

Arduino code by popular demand:

int anlgPin = 2; // select the input pin for the potentiometer
int ledPin = 13; // select the pin for the LED
int val = 0; // variable to store the value coming from the sensor

void setup() {
pinMode(ledPin, OUTPUT); // declare the ledPin as an OUTPUT
}

void loop() {
val = analogRead(anlgPin); // read the value from the sensor

if (val > 50)
{
digitalWrite(ledPin, HIGH); // turn the ledPin on
delay(10000); // stop the program for some time
digitalWrite(ledPin, LOW); // turn the ledPin off
}
}

Anyways… enough of the technical…. See it for yourself! Watch the video sucka!

my first day

I decided to make a thank you card for an awesome guy who helped me get my new computer setup.i decided the best thing to give a computer guy would be a VERY handmade card.

it came out a little less slick than I envisioned, but i am still proud of it.

Dear Genevieve - Day 1

I’m not sure what day it was that we decided to do this, in fact I’m not even sure how we are going to do this! All I know is that this, might lead to that, and well when that gets here, it will have to make due with this. My point being, this will be interesting. A thing-a-day, how peculiar? How bizarre? I sense something wonderful out of this. I love you Genevieve, let the games commence!

(The picture is of a bunch of comics I got in the month of January 08, I know not creative. We’ll work with it.)

                                               For the month of January lets move on February.

i am almost forgetful. of that day and standing before so many of you. and the breaking down with the sobs real hard and not being able to look up. and from then to this day 1 and it comes back in the form of a pocket, torn off free hospital pants. if i knew what the word irony meant, along with how it might have related to your illness, i might have just used such a word.

Day 1 - Baked Cupcakes

cupcakes

Today I baked my trademark Cream Cheese Chocolate Cheese Cupcakes. My friend, Heather shared the recipe for the batter with me. It uses tofu in place of the eggs and oil, making it less of a guilty pleasure! The icing is a modification of one I came across a few months back on a craft blog. I use stevia in place of sugar. I also use low fat cream cheese and simply egg whites…the worse thing in it is probably the chocolate chips! I made these for several get-togethers over Christmas with rave reviews.

For Day 2, I am going to layout the recipe for anyone interested to download.

Eventually I would like to design a little recipe book. Perhaps one with all tofu based recipes.

Happy Friday folks!

Things I Need

HTC

 My ‘thing’ this year is to write a blog post every day. Writing is how I am creative. Occasionally I make the mistake of veering into other areas; occasionally this is semi-successful. For thing-a-day, I will particularly attempt to document non-writing creative activity whenever I have the energy (which isn’t usually very often). Be prepared for ramblings about gardening and singing in the shower.

 This means that most of my entries here will be links to my blog posts. But I’ll try to summarise them in a witty way and to provide visual aids. Today’s visual is above, with entry below. I wrote about stuff. Not really much creativity there. I shall endeavour to do better tomorrow.

Does this count?

I work 2 days on my jewelry and the other days I stay home with my 3-year-old.

Today is one of the stay-at-home days. And it’s raining. It’s really hard to find new things to do with him, but when we got a 3 boxes of groceries delivered I knew just what we’d do.

Day 1

Today we made 4 things, and broke 2 soldering irons.

Thing 1a closet shelves.

Left Shelf
Shelf 2
I recently moved out of my storage unit. While putting most of the boxes into my hall closet I realized that there was a ledge which would make it a no brainer to put in a shelve. So I cut down some laminated boards that I dumpster dove last year and rounded the corners off of
them so I wouldnt hurt myself coming and going. I hot glued the edge of the laminate around the corner so It looks good as well :)

Thing 1 b and c Meg and A168 mouse (arduino based mouse bots).

Meg and A168 mouses.

My son and I have been working on modifying a pair of Tamaya wall following mice. After some thought and discussion we decided to build both of them out using the arduino and the motor controller boards that I had built for this purpose previously. My main soldering iron went out in the morning when I was preparing these. My spare went out in the middle of the second motor contoller board. I should move the soldering iron timer up on my to do list.
