I didn’t have a chance to get into town today for more wool, so I continued with the cross-stitch I’ve been working on. It’s taking longer than I thought it would!

Day 25: The cross-stitch continues…
Feb 24th - pattern
Today, I made a pattern for the gift to our extended family’s newest addition. It’s an underwater theme that will read the new baby’s name, date of birth, weight, and length. I drew it out on graph paper.

Finally matted and framed some cross-stitch
I framed this cross stitch poorly (no mat so the stitching was against the glass, it was framed smaller, etc.) and it really needed to be redone. Finally went out got a mat, found an old frame (hideous 80’s cream with tan in the creases), repainted the frame, and put it all together. Very happy now that the stitching will probably keep much better.
I did do the cross stitch but it was not this month, or even this year, even the cleaning of the stitching was done months ago — so all I did today was painting the frame and bringing it all together - love that a theme this week was remake)
Cross-stitch & Chicken wraps
I helped make dinner by cutting up an obscene amount of red, green, yellow, and orange peppers. Cross-stitch still requires outlining, background, and text.

Thing 16. English Garden Sampler

I’ve had the flu, so all I could manage yesterday was a few stitches on my ongoing embroidery project, “English Garden Sampler,” designed by Teresa Wentzler. But, hey, I’m on the home stretch! Only one more band to go! Then all those endless beads….
Yesterday & Today
So today, I painted another pair of my circulation socks with a heart-theme and organized a cupboard (may not look like it, but should’ve seen the before). I also included an update of my cross-stitch, which is looking more and more like it’s supposed to everyday. Happy Valentine’s Day, all!

Cross stitch
I finally started the “Truthiness” cross stitch kit I bought from Subversive Cross Stitch a few weeks ago.
Didn’t get all that far…but it’s a start.
And if Stephen Colbert homages weren’t enough, today I found a blog dedicated to rendering old video games in cross stitch.
Update - Feb 10, 11, 12
I tried to update on the 10th, but the post didn’t seem to go through. Nothing interesting missed though, don’t worry
Feb 10 - went outside, very windy, forgot to bring camera + continued cross-stitch
Feb 11 - chopped up some fresh veggies + continued cross-stitch
Feb 12 - continued cross-stitch + planning to organize next one
Work in progress, one day it’ll mean something:

stuff it
So, I came up with this “great” idea to make stuffed heart pillows for the upcoming holiday, the twist being that they would have decidedly un-Valentine sayings cross-stitched onto them.
As I tried to figure out how to do this, I realized there’s a whole subculture of these kind of “subversive cross-stitch”-ers already out there: http://www.subversivecrossstitch.com/index.html. Not only that- there’s a web-comic who is doing basically the same thing I was thinking of, only better http://www.subversivecrossstitch.com/valentines2008.htm
Motherfucker.
But I went ahead with it anyway. To ensure my failure, I opted not to get the appropriate cross-stitch fabric (I used an old handkerchief), and I did basically no pre-planning for the layout of my sparse ”design” (I was too impatient). Also, I drank as I stitched erratically. Here’s what I came up with:

Today’s Mission: Cross-stitch (another cat)
Okay, so, it’s difficult to tell what this is, but it’s the forming of a paw of a cat. Seems like it’ll take forever to complete, so the updates will indeed be in the future.

Today’s mission: ???
I don’t know what I planned to do today, but I started my second cross-stitch. Didn’t get too much done, but managed to untangle and sort the thread. The kit actually came with this piece of card stock with holes to thread the various colours through. Coming in handy already
Will post more when I do more.

Gaming & Stitching
So today I did some cross-stitch, and spent time looking and older pieces I’ve done. I really do need to learn to do framing, I think, or I probably won’t ever get them all framed and on the wall.
Sam and I also gamed. In case anyone is wondering why that would count at all, we create stories together in a free-form roleplaying game. It’s a little like improvisational theater, but there’s no audience and we don’t move around.
Today’s mission: Finish up cat cross-stitch
Today, I managed to finish up the cross-stitch I started earlier this month. In true ICHCB fashion, I added the phrase myself, and will be giving it to my husband

Today’s mission: Kitten cross-stitch
I got a “kid’s” cross stitch, as I’ve never cross stitched before. Wasn’t too difficult, but took a while… Should be pretty cute when it gets completed
Not going to happen in the 20mins to 1hr suggested time for Thing-a-Day, lol

Well, it’s a start
Nope, I don’t have a photo to post, but I got out the drawing tablet for the first time in an embarrassingly long time, and worked on a cross-stitch design. It split into two, somehow, but I’m hoping to post pics tomorrow. I discovered that Patternmaker isn’t installed on this machine, so I’ve made graphics that have to be translated into graphed designs.
I feel that I’m really in the “getting organized” stage, which I should have done last week. But the tablet is attached now, and I know where my stitching bag is. I’ll find out in the morning just what my daughter did with my colored pencils and such, and locate the Patternmaker install CD. Yep.
It did feel great to have time on my schedule devoted to “being creative” and nothing else!
