Thing-a-day Veinte y quatro (Craft fair)

I’ve been so busy lately. On Sunday I set up my shop at HungaMunga’s Art Bazaar in East London. It was nice to see some familiar faces and get caught up. I also took a few items I had not showcased and it was fun seeing the reaction to these (Jebby the Whale and a painting I have yet to post online). I think the whole HungaMunga thing is ace!

Check out my shop at www.maribel.etsy.com.

I like paper crafts so much, I keep going back to the same projects. A few months ago I saw this and decided to glue nice strips of paper [with cool patterns I found in an IKEA catalogue… ] to sized toilet rolls. Made a few bracelets. Huge sucess!

This time I thought that I could cut skinnier and shorter rings and make a necklace:

Day 18 Copper Branches

The two lamps I made on previous days and have already been posted.  So what I did make is the copper branches for the lanterns.  It looks cooler without the flash but then you cannot see the branches as well.  Anyway I now have this steampunk copper branch chandelier.

Thanks Craft for the project in your Magezine!

Day 17  Another Lantern turned into a lamp.

lantern17.JPG

This conversion took more work than yesterdays but I got an early start.  I need one more lantern for the total SteamPunk lantern chandelier.

This is turning out great great. Thanks Craft for publishing this in your magazine.

I am going to use copper tubing for the branches.

Fireworks and Caramel

Been trying to keep up with making stitch markers. I’m getting in that stage that I’m wanting to do everything but. It’s okay though I’m just having a hard time thinking up combos of beads I like. I made the ever famous Fireworks set but this time for knitter. Then I made caramel which I’m not sure how I feel about yet.

Is this for real?

Sometimes being creative means looking at the world around you for inspiration.  I think I will make a gocco in tribute to this ad.

Spotted Ebony Stitch Markers

Quickly whipped these stitch markers up. These were the last of my snowflake beads. Sad to see them go. I won’t be able to purchase any stone beads for a while because of money issue. Until then I will be using my glass beads that I seem to have an abundance in. I do still have stone beads but I would like to replenish the ones that have been used all up.

Ocean Pearls

I have tons of homework to do today before I go to class. Maybe I should do this homework before the day it is do. But really I keep it to the last day thinking I’ll get motivated to do it before then. Instead when the day comes I’m stressed and really don’t want to do it but don’t want to fail my class.

I made this set of stitch markers last night since I knew my time would be very limited today. Previously I made sets like this several times. People seem to like those light blue glass pearl beads with the crackle glass. Now I jinxed it and no one will buy it ha.

Day 11

Well, I did something today! Damn damn damn that paper store online. Now I HAVE to make those cards and send them out or I’ll feel like a sell-out. Or something, that may be the wrong word. I’m kinda tired.

The Baby actually has an ear infection and the doc says his rash looks like a combo of eczema and possibly a viral rash. Poor boy. I gave him some motrin and he was happier than he’d been in a few days. But he was never overly cranky. We’re going to wait a bit and see if it’s a viral infection before we attempt antibiotics since he’s not had a hint of a fever.

So during naptime, I got some paper crafting in. I made some envelopes for mailing out my valentines, but I still need to make a couple more. Then I lined them and have started working on the cards themselves. I just now stamped a bunch of hearts, but they’ll take a while to dry. So I’m thinking tomorrow is a good day to finish cutting out pieces and assembling. So they’ll be a little late. Heck, my mom’s still waiting on her bday gift from Jan. 6. It’s been sitting on my end table for a few weeks now. Maybe mailing that out should be my ‘thing’ some day soon.

Day 10 - As promised, here’s the photo of the valentines for the First Grader’s class, with the stack of envelopes we made behind them. The brown heart portion is sticking up a bit, the 3d effect isn’t really showing here.

Day 11 - Again, the 3d isn’t that evident. The heart pieces aren’t quite so crooked looking in real life, just need flattening. They are on foam sticky pieces, as are the photo and its background piece.

Day 7: silk screening and book making

mini skull books

I silk screened the covers of these books today, and then I put the books together. It was only my second time silk screening, so I am really happy how it turned out. Check out some more pictures of these books!

Sugar Skulls in felt

sugarskulls.jpg

I’ve always been fascinated by the artwork inspired by The Day of the Dead, El Día de los Muertos, and decided that today I would play around with some felt skulls. I did a lot of needlework, some I’m proud of, some I’m uncertain about, but I had fun with the three I’ve made so far, and I think they still need some work. I’m just not going to have time to finish them today, and I haven’t decided if they’re going on gift card holders or some other felt project.

Owl Gift Card Holder

owlgiftcardholder.jpg
Well, today I did everything free hand by cutting into the felt and just letting the forms emerge.  I knew I wanted to do an owl themed card holder, and today the owl came alive for me.  I even gave him a little branch to sit on.  He was a joy to make.

I didn’t draw anything today, but I did sew my first stuffed toy for sale on etsy! I slapped together this flyer with photos and my shop banner. Shameless self promotion indeed :)

Soft Cover Wrap Around Notebooks!

I was getting some really great responses about the notebook I made, so I made another today and created a tutorial about how it was done.

Day 2 and Day 3: soft cover notebook

I made this little book over the weekend. The paper block one day, and then cut the cover and assembled it the next. It’s roughly 4 x 5 inches, is filled with 50 pages of mixed paper types, and has a soft vinyl wrap around cover! It’s going to be a late birthday present for a friend. I hope she likes it!

Groundhog Day

groundhog-day.jpg Today I over-crafted in the spirit of rainy day weather and the need to finish an idea I had last night for a Groundhog Day picture.  It’s made of felt, hand-sewn, and it’s not done, but I’ve spent too much time on it today that I will go in later and add some details like flowers and maybe some approving/disapproving facial features from the sun and cloud.  The picture is of the famous groundhog, and he has decided that once and for all that he’s not going to allow his shadow to send him back down the hole for six more weeks.  So it’s game on, and it looks like the famous groundhog wants to don some kung-fu moves he learned over the summer, but that might cause him some trouble because, you know, his shadow knows everything he knows.  Who will win?  You tell me …

Today I had lots of different ideas for crafty things to do, but I can only make one thing at a time… so, I chose to do a butterfly pin for a friend of mine. I got this idea because I have a butterfly pin of my own, that I bought a year ago. Mine is made of 3 different pink tones of felt, sewed together in a pin. My friend saw it and fell in love with it, so I promised I’d make her one. But I added a few things to make it a little more appealing.
