envelopes

I have finally finished up with my finger painted valentines project (except for the whole actually going to the post office bit). I struggled with decorating my envelopes… I have grown tired of my Valentine’s Day project, so most are simple. But then, necessity (which we all know is the mother of invention) helped get my creative juices going. I was running low on envelopes due to my usual absentminded mess-ups. Additionally, my last two valentine cards were of an unusual size. I also felt bad wasting envelopes. So I recycled my mess up envelopes! Yay! These were my favorite envelopes to make. I have included a picture of a ho-hum envelope (very valentiney) and pictures of my favorite re-worked (but not so valentiney) envelopes. And in the spirit of our nation today, I redacted my envelope picture for privacy sake.

For all the pretty paper I have hidden away, I really prefer general office supplies. Interoffice envelopes are my favorite.

Giraffe.

My 8 month old daughter seems to be very taken with giraffes, and really, why not. As I was brainstorming for my theme for the week (correspondence), I stumbled upon some Tanzanian postage I had in my box marked “decoupage/objects.” The stamp depicts Tanzanian giraffes. So I used it to make my daughter a little collage for her nursery. I used paper I had and free handed cutting out the letters. I think it is quite cute. I will frame it in a simple frame and hang it in her room. The picture below is a bit dark - the colors are more vibrant and the border is a deep navy.

I have to say that this time I only spent about 45 minutes (including making the accompanying mess and cleaning it up). I am a lot less frazzled than last night. I must remember to “Keep It Simple, Stupid.”

I also made my voice heard - I voted!  Supah-Dupah Tuesday!

Valentine’s Continued

I finally finished my first project - valentines using finger paintings I did with my rad 8 month old.  In my usual hyperfocus way, I sat down and started cutting and gluing and even though I had to pee and even though I was hungry, I just kept plugging away. I am happy with my outcome. We made eight in all. I still plan to decorate the envelopes later this week!
