Catching up

I’ve slacked off on posting and gotten more casual about my Things, but I’m still at it. Friday I did this doodle based on some photos of my son wearing various weird things.

I also went swimming that night, which should count as a Thing because it takes so much for me to get motivated.

Saturday I went on a short hike and tested my new camera. Yesterday I took fun photos and did some much-needed organizing.

Now I’m going to put together my new vacuum cleaner. I’m ridiculously excited about this.

Day 19: I want to drop kick my computer

thing-a-day-19.jpg I wanted to make dinosaur buttons today.  I thought it would be a good exercise to learn illustrator.  You know something small.  I HATE ILLUSTRATOR.  I got the lines done, wanted to blow up my computer, then gave up and switched to photoshop.  2.5 hours later the lamest unfinished button ever!  Anyone know any good tutorials for illustrator?

Inspired by MikeJ’s earlier Thing, here’s my more conventional take on Scott McCloud’s Dadaist narrative construction game Five Card Nancy.

Yep, it’s sick and wrong. And you know you just chuckled at it.

Mike’s Day 9: Penguin Hunt

A quick and dirty thing for today (well, yesterday), made using this amazing site.

Thing-A-Day 9

A quick, ad-libbed portrait of my family, rendered in black Sharpie for the amusement and distraction of a whiny, crabby, tired two-year-old. I was attempting to juggle the oranges when Lisa suggested I draw faces on them. Three is the magic number, so…

The kid orange looks nothing at all like Tenzin, but mine is pretty accurate. Mom’s is recognizable, I suppose.

Day 5 and 6: silk screens and Dick Dastardly

Day 5 I stretched a few silk screens and put emulsion on them to dry.

Day 6 I did this little 3.5 x 5 inch gouache painting on watercolour paper of Dick Dastardly from Hanna-Barbera’s Wacky Racers. He totally had the best car out of everyone, but he was too busy being a jerk to everyone to finish the race first! Hahaha! Definitely one of my favourite Villains.

Drat, drat and double drat!

I’m not totally happy with this one but it has that odd feeling which I was aiming for. Based on a photo of model Chanel Iman, if anyone cares.

Mademoiselle Aubergine (Ms. Eggplant) (no. 2)

I fell asleep before posting last night…

Mademoiselle Aubergine (Ms. Eggplant) (no. 2)

She’s an Asian eggplant. I had in mind those cheesy oversaturated pinups you see in Asian neighborhoods.

The spud came later.
