Things 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 & 24!

It’s been a busy week, so I haven’t taken the time to post, but I have been creating “stuff.” Let’s see… Tuesday I made another take-out box. Wednesday I did calligraphy on one of them.

Chinese boxes and calligraphy

Thursday I finished the round flower I’d started at our craft meet-up on Sunday.Kanzashi flower

CrochetFriday I worked on a crochet box I’m making. It’s gonna take longer than 2o minutes, for sure! I work on it when I find time to sit for a while.

Dottee DollsSaturday I made the Dottee doll for my Swap-bot exchange. I used a fabric remnant I bought, then while I was poking around in my grandma’s old pedal sewing machine, I found a little drawstring bag with the lace, buttons, and “hair” pieces. I’m not sure what they were originally for, but I like them as the hair! I added the beading to make them fancier. I’m pretty pleased with how they turned out. I’d never made one before! I got so into doing it, I ended up making the second one after midnight, so I’m counting that as my thing for Sunday!

Day 18: Painted Jewelry Box Lid

I mentioned a few days ago that I was working on sketches for an idea I had. This is the final sketch I finished today:

Meant to be a stylized lotus with (granted, simplistic) calligraphy of the Name of Allah in the center. I have had another idea to try to do this in beading as a gift for my Shaykh’s wife.

The initial idea (and day 18 “thing”) was to paint the lid of this wonderful box I have that I use to keep my earrings in. This is the finished painting:

Although I’m sorta partial to the (inaccurate) colors portrayed in this photo which darkened it up a bit. :)

Day 15 - Calligraphy

European cities

The places I want to visit and / or live in.

I really like the brown ink. It makes it look victorian.

For day 16, I am going to tidy up some more bookmarks on my computer…fun stuff!

A lesson I must repeat and repeat

This seemed like it would be a quick little project, but….

I have not done any calligraphy for years and forgot many of the simple techniques that would have prevented me from having to start this five times including: counting spaces and letters when centering lines, making sure the paper is not so porous that the ink bleeds, making sure that the paper is porous enough so that when you erase your guidelines you don’t erase your work, to stop thinking about anything except the current letter. and so on.  Well at least it is inexact enough that people will not think I cheated and just used a computer font…

This is a saying that my dad had hanging in his basement for years and I always loved it.  Now I am thinking I need to do an entire series of subversive calligraphy –  maybe some mildly rude stuff in pseudo latin…..

(and yes, I did cut the mats off-kilter on purpose. In my twisted mind I thought that was funny)

Day 11 - Calligraphy attempt I

Calligraphy books

Unfortunately, all I had time to do was take this book and my ancient calligraphic supplies out of a box and look through them today.

I will have to leave playing with Calligraphy for some other time.

For day 12, I just want to get a good size chunk of time to sort some of my Firefox bookmarks.
