Day Four

Thing-A-Day has turned into Experiment-A-Day for me.  Here is a close-up of the fabric bookmarks (?) that I am working towards.

It was super simple: Rectangle of thrifted vintage bed sheet sewn on slightly larger rectangle of stiff grey felt.

Brandie’s Day 4

Continuing on with the book theme ….

My oldest dd made another book today (and really they are so cute. I’ve tried to take pictures of the pages, but they don’t turn out well and I REALLY wish that I had a scanner to scan them in that way). My other daughter made a bookmark. And I also made a bookmark - this one out of fabric =)

I really like my bookmark though. I think it turned out very cute. Although, I was also thinking that I might add a little charm to the end of it to give it some weight to hang down, but I’m not sure because I really like it now and sometimes too much can be, well, too much!

Books, Glorious Books!

Well, not quite.

I didn’t actually make a book today; I made a bookmark.

it’s knitted - I cast on a bucket load of stitches on my biggest needles (I never counted them), knit two rows and the cast off.  What was the side of the work is actually the top of the book mark.

I used some self patterning purple eyelash yarn which is the first yarn I ever bought way back before I even learned to knit or thought of doing so!  I’m not really sure why I bought it but I’m glad to have finally used part of it after maybe two years.

No pictures today because in the very short term my camera needs new batteries and in the not very long term needs replacing.  I think some form of camera cosy might be a project for one day - this one hasn’t worked right since I dropped it so protecting and padding any new one would be a great idea, me thinks!

Brandie’s Day 3

Today was I made a really fun thing: an accordion book. Now, I have never made one of these before and didn’t know how much fun I would have with it. We took a trip to the zoo recently and so I made it from those pictures. I can see how these could become quite addicting! If I ever made a scrapbook from this time, I think the accordion book would fit int here very nicely and give me a way to showcase lots of pictures without doing 10 scrapbook pages.
I took a bunch of pictures, which I did upload to the flickr group, but I’ll just post the mosiac of them here:

My girls also both did their projects today as well. One made a bookmark and the other made a book. It’s so cute. They wake up and almost immediately begin to brainstorm about what they will make for thing-a-day today! They are having fun with it and that is really fun for me to watch =)

Kraphti’s Day 1 Kreation

I made a sweet mokume gane using Liquid Acrylic ink and Jones Tones Foils with the Polymer clay. This was the first time I’ve used the foils. During the stacking process I realized I’d flipped one of the foils upside down. I was like “Oh crap. I just screwed this slab up.” But then when I stared slicing, I loved the the two toned metallic contrast. I made several beads and a couple of book marks.

Since I was experimenting, I only made a small slab. But I’m planning to make a bigger one for a new mask in the next month or so.
