Kitty Bags

For day 8 and 9, I made two of these bags. I finished one yesterday and the other today. I’m still contemplating whether or not to open an Etsy shop. In case I decide to go through with it, I thought sewing up a few things to have ready might be a good idea. The bags are approximately 14 1/2″ x 9 1/2″, including the handles and has a drawstring closure. I made one of the bags last summer for my mom who uses it to throw her wallet and smaller knick knacks in. Then I made two more for my nieces with this same kitty material. The girls insisted on carrying their purses everywhere they went and used them to carry all the important things a 5 year old girl could need…a water bottle, a doll, and Happy Meal toys :)

Set of (12) produce bags

About 8 months ago I invested the time to make a set of canvas shopping bags so that I could stop at least a little bit of the waste coming into the house. I also made a set of tulle “one-string” bags to use for produce — couldn’t see pulling plastic bags for my apples and then putting them into a canvas bag in their plastic bag. Unfortunately, I found that the tulle was not very durable in the hands of the bag boys. Some were practically tatters by the time I got them home. So, I decided I needed something a little more durable, but still not too heavy. So I settled on some light muslin.

Here is the result — I did away with the drawstring because I found that I never filled them so full that I couldn’t just spin them and roll them over, just like I would with a plastic bag. produce-bag-set.JPG
