Day 28 - L’il Red KITTY Sketchbook!

I’ve added a kitty cutout and a wooden button closure to L’il Red Sketchbook. I love kitties. :)

Wow. Only one day left! Thing-a-day has helped make this month fly by. I wonder, what shall I do next?

Day 27 - L’il Red Sketchbook :)

For today I stitched up this floppy little sketchbook with some of that soft leather I got from the thrift store. For fun, I made the outside page of every other signature red. I kinda have a thing for red… ^_^
I think it isn’t finished yet, and I’ll probably add some details or a closure or some such thing tomorrow.

Day 26 - Bastardizing Old Photos!

I love old photos and I’ve been collecting them for a while now. Sometimes I like to have some digital fun with them. :D
Note obligatory party hat! These chicks need to loosen up a bit. Imagine wearing dresses with collars like that…

When I look at pictures like this one, I always think about my great-grandma, who was born into times like those, and died not too long ago (03).

All the changes she lived through, in every facet of life! From ice boxes to refrigerators. From washboards and clotheslines to automated washing machines and dryers. From wearing long, stiff full-length dresses to wearing nearly nothing if you feel like it! From telegrams and radio to digital everything. Changes in the workings of familial relationships…husbands and wives, parents and children.

I wonder how she coped with the changes, what changes she enjoyed and did not, and if she completely realized all the changes that happened in her near-century of life. What a time to be alive.

Day 25 - My First Keyboard

My little brother and I each got the Casio PT-1 when I was about 4 years old. I have kept it all this time because I have so many fond memories of the silly songs and concerts we played on our little keyboards. I especially love the demo song! Leave a message if you had one of these too!

Here’s the song as recorded directly from the PT-1! Ahh the memories…

If, by some odd chance, you want to listen to this song on your iPod or use it in a composition, you can download the mp3 here. (Make sure to Save As)

Day 24 - Planning a Craft Pit Update

I’m tired of the traditional sort of furniture I have in my craft room now, so I’m thinking about some new stuff (and paint, and new curtains!). This isn’t high in my budget priorities, so everything will probably come from IKEA! :) I took measurements and laid out my craft room in 3d, and added in some placeholders for potential IKEA furniture.  (If you want to see what it looks like right now, check out my first post.)

Day 23 - Stamp completed

Posting this a little late, but I finished it. It didn’t print too great IMO. Kind of rustic. I think I’ll have to find another use for these corks, or try some more simple designs with them. When carving, they’re so hard and stringy - just not the right type of rubber.

Day 22 - Carved a chunk out of my finger…

I bought a big bag of what I believe are home brew wine corks at the thrift store. I thought it would be fun to carve them. Wrong I am! They are hard as hell! I slipped and took a chunk right off the tip of my left pointer. D’oh. That’ll learn me. So, I’m going to go soak that in some alcohol and tape it up now. This is what I’ve finished on the stamp so far. I’ll complete it very cautiously and make an impression with it tomorrow.

Ha, you can actually make out the chunk-o-finger a bit in the pic. It’s that yellowish spot above the pile. eww

Day 21 - Finished that bracelet

Quick thing today! I used an antique button from my little collection to finish up the bracelet I started yesterday.

Day 20 - Stitched Bead Bracelet (In Progress)

This has been time consuming, maybe 2.5-3 hours. It’s about time to get some sleep, so I’ll put a clasp on it tomorrow. For the beaders out there, it is in peyote stitch using teensy size 14 seed beads. :) Have a great night everyone!

Day 19 - Buddha Earrings

I bought these little red glass Buddhas a few years ago, and finally decided I’d make something of them for my thing of the day. I’m a terrible art/craft supply hoarder, always trying to save things for that perfect project…

Generally I prefer silver, but these guys just didn’t go along with silver at all in my eyes. :)

Day 18 - Playful Pink Polka-dotted Pointy Kitty!

The reason I made this is because I love alliteration! haha You can call it PPPPK for short. :D
You can get your Pointy Kitty pattern courtesy of WeeWonderfuls here. (I downsized the pattern a little for my kitty to make sure I wouldn’t run out of the polka-dot felt.)

Day 17 - Played the Piano!!

I haven’t touched the piano for over 5 months, so I decided my accomplishment for today was to get a little practice time in and make some music! I’m working on some songs by Joe Hisaishi. I’ll spare you my terrible playing, but if you want to hear the songs I’m practicing - here are some nice videos on YouTube.
Path of the Wind, from Totoro This one is played by the man himself.
Silence, from Etude~A Wish To The Moon (A Hisaishi Solo Piano Album) This one is played by a very talented Hisaishi fan. This is one of my most favorite songs. My favorite part starts around 2:45. I can only play the first quarter of this song, but I want to be able to play the entire thing someday. Sooo pretty.

Day 16 - More Papercutting, A Pattern For You

I had company over last night, so I didn’t get a change to post this yesterday…

I wanted to do some more paper cutting, so I scanned in a design from this book of Chinese papercut designs. I colorized it in Photoshop, printed, and cut!

If you want to make it too, download the large size of this image and print it on some heavy paper.

Day 15 - A Collaborative Effort

Yeah, so I skipped day 14. I’ll make up for that later. ;)

For today, my lovely husband drew me this little sketch of the flowers he bought me for Valentine’s Day (they’re not quite that sparse though! Jeesh!), and I colored the sketch in Photoshop.

Day 11 - A Sense of Accomplishment.

After a few attempts, sewing and then ripping apart and re-sewing, I was able to sew in straight enough lines to complete the handles and finish up the bag! This was big for me, because I normally would’ve ditched a troublesome project like this and relegated it to a bin of scraps so that I could work on something more fun. Me is seriously lacking in self-discipline. Thing-a-day is very helpful for me in that battle!

The lining is the same as the red stuff on the handles. I would’ve taken more photos, but this thing is so darn shiny, it’s tough to get a good photo. That’s why I hacked out the background on this one, so it would have contrast enough to see the shape.

Day 10 - Crystal Earrings

Wellll…I’m not having much luck coming up with proper handles for the patchwork project (I think the big problem is that I can’t cut or sew in a straight line!). So while I’m pondering the completion of that project, I made these simple earrings for my day 10 thing. Just silver threads and Swarovski crystal drops. I think I’ll wear them to work tomorrow… ^_^

Day 9 - Continuation of Day 7 Patchwork Project!

I still didn’t have enough time to finish this yet! But, now you can probably see where I’m going with it…

It’s quite thick and sturdy. Not sure what the handles will be like yet - I’ll figure that part out later.

And since I don’t have another blog anywhere right now - I just want to say for the record that I love Diet Cherry Chocolate Dr. Pepper, which I have been drinking while I was working on this project. haha Good night everyone. :)

Day 8 - I’m a slacker…

Being slightly inebriated when I got home this evening, and wanting nothing more than to go to bed, I ditched my original plan for today’s project and plaited this incredibly quick bracelet with glass beads and linen cord. I’m going sleepy now. I’ll finish my other nice project when I’m more awake. :) Cheers!
