valentines treats for my sweetie

Since we agreed not to spend money on eachother for valentine’s day, i decided to make heart shaped rice krispie squares for my boyfriend. This was my first ever attempt at making them all by myself IN THE MICROWAVE (which i just found out about today)

I couldnt find any valentines day colored marshmallows (which i read existed) So i got the multicolored pack and seperated all the red ones and mixed the red with a bag of white.
marshmallows

The actual making of the squares took less than 5 minutes and since i had to rush it all to get done before it hardened, i have no pictures of the in between. I used a heart shaped cookie cutter to make 4 hearts and then threw the rest in a pan.

They turned out nice and pink and i wrote on them with that icing stuff in a tube.

Here is the end result! (i think i did fairly well)

they say I love you, Be mine and Je t’M (french)

I am very excited to see his reaction!!

bracelet

I was planning on making a necklace out of some random beads i had lying around.

But I got lazy and sleepy so it became a bracelet instead. (thank god i have small wrists!)

Doing one crafty thing a day is tough!!

I also cooked some Perch (fish) for supper and i put butter and garlic and dill and a few other things on top and baked it in the oven in tin foil and threw a few asparagus in there.  Mmmm it was delicious. unfortunately i ate it and didn’t take a picture so you can use your imagination!

Christmas Flower

This was a Christmas present from my mom, It included the pot, soil and the bulb. (I always forget the name!!)

Here’s a little montage of it’s transition (i’m missing the first few weeks)

January 31st:

February 11th:
flower 3

I planted it after new years and right now it is peaking. Which sadly means it’s all down hill and dying after this. But never fear, i will dry it out and replant it next fall :)

And they lived happily ever after.

I love doodling

I wanted to do more drawing but didnt have the patience to copy a photo so I decided to just improvise and do some doodles. I really like this and it’s just good practice. Plus it doesnt require much concentration so i can do it while I watch TV :)

Also, sadly, I don’t own a scanner so I have to take pictures with my digital camera… hence the not so great quality!

Sautéed Talapia With Lemon-Herb Glaze

talapia

I was going to buy some battered fish to have ‘fish n chips’ for dinner, but I decided to take a slightly healthier approach and buy some fresh fish and try a new recipe I had found.

you can read the recipe’s step by step instructions here:

It was deeeelish! Sadly, the fries were frozen… and that mayo on the side is not quite low fat :)

hemp seashell necklace

Since I have soooo much jewelry things, i figured i would put them to good use and make a necklace.

Took me just a few minutes but I really like the end result and i feel it has a sort of hippie chic charm to it (probably because of the hemp… hehe)

And the shells are from an old necklace that i never wore, so in a way, i am recycling!

sweet potato wedges and baked asparagus

So I made 2 new recipes tonight (to make up for my lack on thing-a-day yesterday)

Nothing too complicated. I had sweet potatoes and fresh asparagus so I decided to try something new.

I took pictures of the end results.  Here are my pictures and the recipes.

(I liked the sweet potatoes but I was expecting more of a fry and they were closer to actual baked potato. Still yummy. As for the asparagus, it was delicious, but i cooked it a few extra minutes because i prefer them not too crunchy. )

potatoes

Sweet Potato Wedges with Rosemary
From Vegetarian Times magazine

3 1/2 lb. sweet potatoes
3 Tbs. olive oil
1 1/2 tsp. chili powder
1 1/2 tsp. Soy Sauce
Salt to taste
1 heaping Tbs. chopped fresh rosemary

1. Preheat oven to 450F. Line two shallow roasting pans or rimmed baking sheets with aluminum foil.
2. Halve potatoes crosswise, then lengthwise, and cut each half into 4 sticks.
3. Mix oil, chili powder and soy sauce in bowl. Drizzle over potatoes, and toss to coat.
4. Arrange skin side down in one layer in baking pans. Sprinkle with salt.
5. Roast 12 minutes. Turn slices, and roast until tender, 8 to 12 minutes more. Add salt, if needed. Toss in rosemary.

asparagus

taking a shot at drawing a bird again

birdie 2birdie 2birdie 2

Thing a day number 2, bird number 2. (chickadee) this one involved a little more patience. I drew it while watching “The persuit(spelling?) of happyness”. Good movie.

I’m happy with the drawing, considering I was visiting family and didn’t have access to much besides a regular pencil and an eraser.

anticipation!

just a few days till February!! don’t want to plan this out too much, want it to be spontaneous.

I’m really worried about finding a creative thing every day… especially if i am out of town for a weekend.

here are some ideas i have (so that i dont forget them :))

- sew a really funky apron (need - funky material) cooking or gardening? both?

- try some new recipes

- painting

- sketching

- photography

- transplant some plants? is that crafty? haha

this is gonna be tough… there will most likely be lots of drawing - not that that’s a bad thing!

Just thought of a few things

- that egg in muffin pan recipe - must try it

-scrapbooking! i have so much scrapbooking stuff that was given to me…
