DAY TWENTY-SIX - well!

Ha, ha, ha. Since the last time I posted on thing-a-day was on the 12th, I have obviously not done very well with making something new every day. I suppose I can blame my lack of posting on school work or the many college visits and auditions that I went on, but it’s really just attributed to my lack of persistence to do this every day. However, I figure I may as well still post what I have gotten around to do - less on the craft side, but I managed to take some pictures of what I did make… memories.

OH, that was bad! Ew, haha.
Anyway, here goes - mostly photographs.

Late night cupcakes in the cold! I love the store display - Crumbs, in Westwood.

Grins with missing teeth - February days in the park!

Filled my city with bubbles! At least for a minute.

Secretly planted flowers in the middle of the night with Katie!

The beach in Santa Barbara on a cloudy day.

Organized social activities for my choir - a trip back to childhood!

On the non-photo side, I made some index-card collages to send in the mail. Fun!

Besides that, I also baked a few batches of brownies, a round of dinosaur-shaped sugar cookies, made a home-made lava lamp, started a journal, and a bunch of other things that I currently cannot remember or photograph.

In any case, I am hoping that this isn’t my last post! I will be back in these last few days, I hope. But if this is my last post, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed looking at what everyone else made - everyone is so creative! Thanks for reading, and perhaps our paths will cross again in the future.

DAY TWELVE - happiness on a plate

There is something simply happy about a plate of perfect chocolate chip cookies - crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.

DAY ELEVEN - singing valentines outfits

My school’s choir does “Singing Valentines” every year - students buy grams for their valentines or just their friends and write their class schedule on the card. The choir splits into 2 groups of girls and 2 groups of guys, and we find them in their classes and shower them with obnoxious affection in the form of song and dance while wearing ridiculously pink outfits. Oh, high school.

My group of 8 girls’ outfits consist of pink and red plaid pajama bottoms and white wifebeaters with candy hearts with different phrases (QT 3.14 might be the most creative, ever) ironed onto the front. The back has the name of the singer and the year. I ribbon-ed the shirt/pants up and made tags with washing instructions. (I should probably be doing my homework, haha).

DAY NINE - cupertino, california

I live in Cupertino, California - a relatively small city in the Bay Area about an hour away from San Francisco. Nothing very exciting happens here, but it is nice anyway.

DAY EIGHT - letter cookies

This weekend I have the pleasure of attending various events and performances to support my friends: USA States Dance Competition, and a friend playing Bernardo in West Side Story. I started baking cookies as their “good job” gifts, and ended up making a lot more than I had expected. I suppose these will become Valentine’s treats for my friends in the upcoming week.

I knew I wanted to make cut-out sugar cookies with lemon icing, but I wasn’t sure what shapes to use. Therefore, I ended up making small letter cookies of the initial of the cookie recipient. Lemon-y royal icing colored pale pink to be festive and bagged with a tag that says “A is for Alice” (or whatever the letter/name). They look kind of lumpy, haha.

DAY SEVEN - bunny mittens

Last week, I bought two pairs of plain white mittens at Target on clearance for a dollar. I was trying to make them less boring and came up with these bunny mittens, haha. They have felt eyes and noses, felt ears that stick up, pompom tails, and a string that connects the two so you don’t lose one. I’m not quite sure what I’m doing with these yet.

DAY FIVE - paper doll magnets

I suppose this is pretty uncreative on my account, but today I made paper doll magnets from Wee Wonderfuls. So yes, that does mean that all I did was print them onto magnetic sheets and cut them out, but I’m not good with exacto knives and this was an accomplishment in itself, haha. I’m going to give them to my sister to adorn her college dorm room mini-fridge.

DAY FOUR - the only way is up!

Spent the boring hours of class on Monday decorating my school with “ONE WAY” street signs. They all point up, because that is really the only direction to go, haha.

DAY THREE - a crappy pop-up card

With a lot of hours of choir rehearsal today and two papers (one on “Our Town” and one on “True West” - has anyone read these?) due tomorrow morning, my thing-a-day today is a pop-up “SORRY” card for my friend Jon, because I pulled a too-elaborate prank on him today, haha. The card is made with the limited materials that were available to me at choir rehearsal. Meaning binder paper, random sheet music, a piece of found construction paper, a pair of scissors, and some foam animal stickers provided by my great friend Katie Cheng. I had made a similar-style card with Katie a few weeks ago for another friend, and I’ve posted a picture of that one as the third picture below so you can see what the one I made today was really supposed to look like, haha. I should probably get my act together tomorrow: this thing-a-day entry kind of sucks!

DAY TWO - mittens for two quarters

I had to go down to UCLA for admittance auditions today (I’m applying as a music major, and I live in the Bay Area- six hours’ drive north of LA), so I spent the majority of my day on cars, planes, and shuttles. But, I managed to finish what may possibly be the cheapest mittens ever: cut from two pieces of those cheap felt sheets that are $0.20 each at Michael’s. With embellishments, I suppose the materials cost about fifty cents. I added yarn to connect the two because I always lose my mittens, and added an R and L because they were really plain. And because rights and lefts are still confusing, haha. I think they look like oven mitts, but whatever it was a bumpy plane ride.

DAY ONE - heart crayons

Happy February!
This will be fun :)

I’m not sure where thing-a-day will take me, so I guess we’ll see. I can’t say I have weekly themes planned or anything, so I guess I’ll just take each day as it comes.

Starting off the month with some heart-shaped crayons.
