Last Day - Vintage Rose Morsbag

Nothing spectacular for the last day of Thing-a-day. I made a vintage rose Morsbag for a forum tag and will have quite a few more Morsbags to sew within the next month.

Congrats to those of you who made a thing a day everyday this month! I am certainly envious! Thing-a-day was certainly flowing with creativity and inspiration :) Hope to keep up with everyone next time!

Gruu … Photoshop

Today I thought I would create a banner for my Etsy shop. Nevermind that I’ve never made a banner before! I had to do it myself! So I grueled through a ton of online Photoshop tutorials, sketched out my own mushrooms, created banner after banner after banner, and 5 hours later…tah dah! I’m finally done. Yay me! Heck, now I just need to work on getting more stuff in the shop.

Monkey Throw

Well, I didn’t do very well with this Thing-a-day thing lol. I’m such the slacker and missed so many days, but nonetheless, Thing-a-day did get some creative juices flowing in my head.

Yesterday I made a throw for my son following the guidelines from here but on a larger scale. The front of the throw is flannel and the back is so super soft and cozy. It was fairly quick to make and was completed in about 3 hours.

And a photo of my little monkey wrapped up in his monkey blanket.

Day 17 & 18 - Faeries, Butterflies and Daisies

Day 17 was more productive than day 18. Day 17 I made this Faeries & Butterflies bag. Similar to the Kitty Cat Bags. I absolutely love faeries and butterflies so I’m loving this bag. Still, I have more than enough bags and purses around, so I plan on posting this up on etsy sometime this week.

My son had today off of school for President’s Day. Last week he kept coming home with watercolor paintings from art class. I was impressed with some of his work and thought it might be fun if the two of us did some watercolors today. We picked up some paper and watercolor pencils (I thought I would be less gimpy with the pencils) from the craft store this morning. So for day 18, I present to you my first ever watercolor! I know you all are jealous of my mad art skills and only wish you could paint all kindergarten-ish like I do. Sad to say, this will not be going up in my future etsy shop as I have already promised this masterpiece to someone else. Yes, I know you all are disappointed…I can tell by your laughter.

My watercolor is of a dream I had where I was in a forest and I was surrounded by a field of happy singing daisies. They weren’t normal daisies though (as if them singing didn’t already tell you that) because rather than having stems, they had tree trunks. They also looked much cuter in the dream, and not quite as sloppy.

Vroom Vroom, Day 15 & 16

Alrighty so I haven’t been making a thing a day like intended. I skipped a few days and then on day 15 and 16 I decided to take a break from sewing and take up car assembly. Yesss…me and the kid have been building cars the past couple days. First we tried our hands out on some Lego’s and then we moved on to bigger and better things, like building the 2003 Viper. Vrooom, vrooom! I think I see a future career for us with Dodge.

Day 11 - Sugar High

For all the cookie monsters in your house…

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup crunch peanut butter
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup white sugar, put aside in a small bowl
Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream butter, peanut butter, white sugar and brown sugar together. Beat in eggs. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix dry ingredients with the batter. Mix in chocolate chips. Roll batter into one inch balls and coat each ball by rolling it into the white sugar that was put aside. Place each ball on a baking sheet and press with a fork to make a criss cross pattern. Bake in the oven for 9-10 minutes or until the cookies begin to brown, but do not overbake.

Kitty Bags

For day 8 and 9, I made two of these bags. I finished one yesterday and the other today. I’m still contemplating whether or not to open an Etsy shop. In case I decide to go through with it, I thought sewing up a few things to have ready might be a good idea. The bags are approximately 14 1/2″ x 9 1/2″, including the handles and has a drawstring closure. I made one of the bags last summer for my mom who uses it to throw her wallet and smaller knick knacks in. Then I made two more for my nieces with this same kitty material. The girls insisted on carrying their purses everywhere they went and used them to carry all the important things a 5 year old girl could need…a water bottle, a doll, and Happy Meal toys :)

Today’s Hike…Oh deer

“What is that in the tree?”
“A deer…or used to be anyways.”
“A deer? Then how’d it get in the tree?”
“Mountain lion.”
“Mountain lions?”
“Yeah, a mountain lion dragged it’s meal up there. At least that’s what the ranger told me last time I came.”
“So, there’s mountain lions around here.”
“Yep, isn’t hiking fun?”
“Don’t you worry about mountain lions?”
“I dunno. I guess I’ll worry when I start seeing people remains hanging from the trees.”

The Gnome

“So what are you doing tomorrow?”
“I’m going out hiking to look for a gnome.”
“A gnome?”
“Yes, I heard there’s one in the mountain.”
“The mountains by our house?”
“Yep.”
“We’ve always lived here. I’ve never seen a gnome before.”
“Well have you ever looked?”
“No.”
“Sometimes it’s hard to find something you’ve never looked for before. So do you wanna come with me tomorrow?”
“Sure.”
“Cool. Next week we can go look for fairies.”

Do you see the gnome?

Monkeys for Day 5

Today was the first day in about a month that I’ve had coffee. Woohoo! I was buzzing around like a hummingbird after that and managed to accomplish quite a bit. Below is my “thing” for today.

Monkeys!

I can’t even stand the lil guys, but I made this bag for someone in Swap-bot who loves them.

…my gym partner is a monkey, monkey, monkey, monkey…

Sunday’s Thing

“Mommy, I want you to make Valentine Day cards for my class this year.”

“Wha?”

“Yeah, I like the stuff you make. Can you make my class Valentines Day cards?”
“But we just bought Spiderman and Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends cards.”
“We can use those next year.”

“Argh.”

So in between the cleaning, cooking, and having everyone over for Superbowl yesterday, I began to sew and doodle a couple of thoughts down for mini Valentine Cards. I’m still not pleased with any of my ideas so far, but this is what I have to show for yesterday.

Sunflower tote

I’m still sewing up Morsbags (reusable cloth bags) in hopes of cutting down the plastic bag usage. I thought today I’d whip up a bag since I was running short on time of something to “make”. I had ordered Morsbag labels a few weeks ago to sew on my bags. Of course by the time I finished sewing up this bag, I couldn’t find where I put the darn things.
A close up on the fabric below. I think they’re sunflowers, but I don’t see sunflower seeds in the middle. Anyways, I listed this in the “follow instructions” category, because if you’re interested in making one of these reusable bags the tutorial can be found here. And if you’re interested in this particular Morsbag, leave me a comment. If I get more than one comment, I’ll hold a drawing for it on Tuesday. If you’re the only comment, then woohoo you get a bag, no drawing required lol. And if there are no comments…boohoo…poor lil Morsbag. I’ll find a home for it on Freecycle ;)

It’s the 1st and I’m off to a slow start

So it’s February 1st and I’ve taken a good look through todays Thing-a-day’s posts and I’m beginning to wonder what I am doing here lol. There’s just so much talent here! How wonderful. I had intentions of sewing up something today to post. However, my habit of daydreaming kicked in and rather than sewing, I just sat around daydreaming and doodling.

It used to be that I would doodle on scratch paper and throw it out when I was done, but since I’ve been doing a lot of letter writing lately I’ve decided to dress up the plain white envelopes with my handy dandy art work…And when I say “art work”, I use the term loosely. In fact, here is a picture of my handy dandy art supplies. A plain white envelope and a Strawberry Shortcake pen. Ooo Strawberry Shortcake, you know you’re jealous. The pen’s pretty sucky though, since it doesn’t smell like strawberries like the smelly dolls used to back in my day.

And here are my envelopes.

Not sure what my fascination is with cats lately. I don’t even own one. The cat on the bottom envelope was intended to be purely black, but since my nifty Strawberry Shortcake pen has a super duper ultra fine tip, I got lazy trying to color the cat in and said, “Eh, good enough.” So we’ll just pretend I meant for him to look this way okay?  Sshhh…it’s our little secret.

Okay, I signed up…now I’m nervous

And I’m wondering if I can really make a thing a day…Well shoots, of course I can!  This is the exact motivation I need to get my procrastinating butt in gear.  I’ve had sewing projects piled up for ages now.  I could work on them now, but why not wait til February 1st and really make it count?  Woops, there goes the procrastinator talking.

Hey, I just noticed a “getting organized” category on here.  Are people actually getting organized already?  Maybe I should get started on that.  Of course, I could just do that tomorrow.. Or even February 1st…
