02.29.08 Grounded
For the last day, at home and inside.

my inspiration this month was (B.K.S Iyengar):

most of the locations I photographed at:

This was fun!!!
In few words: Always in-process, artist, educator, and traveler (in mind if not in body), currently living in Brooklyn, New York.
For the last day, at home and inside.

my inspiration this month was (B.K.S Iyengar):

most of the locations I photographed at:

This was fun!!!
Today I stood the mirror up, put my camera on self timer and placed it on the ground.

Today I put the mirror flat on the ground and the camera on top of it.
These were taken on and around state street in Manhattan.

still thinking about:
ascending while descending
rising while sinking
high reaching while gravitating
going through the ceiling while grounding
I tried a smaller (compact) mirror today,
on 11th street between 5th & 6th avenue.

These aren’t really doing what I want them to do,
ascending and descending at the same time.
Tomorrow I may try a different approach.
I’ve been in NYC for 23 years now and
visited East River Park for the first time today.

this week,
using a mirror
still trying to capture a sense of ascending and descending
still placing the camera on the ground

These are taken on the street where I live.
Here’s one more from yesterday.
I was interested in playing with the reflection of the tree in the building
and the reflection of the building in the puddle
– still attempting to achieve a balance between ascending and descending.
(Like all of the images posted this past week, this is acombination of 2 images)

And a redo from an earlier image.

Now I’m ready to take on this new week!
one more thought for today

this (and all of the other images posted this week) was created by combining 2 images.
I left for work early this morning and got off the train 1 stop earlier than usual.
I wanted to walk through Washington Square Park but ended up mostly
on the outskirts due to construction.

A woman in passing gave me an amazingly warm smile.
We didn’t say a word to one another yet, just for a moment, we connected.
None of the photographs I took today seemed to fit together
so I combined an image from 6th Avenue with an image from the Gowanus area.

still going for ascending and descending simultaneously
Back in Brooklyn,
spent most of the day at the computer and almost missed the mild air outside.

This was taken in the Gowanus area near the 9th street bridge.
A sign said “no trespassing” but some nice folks let me walk on through.
another attempt at ascending while descending

also, a variation on yesterday’s image

week 1: I focused on being grounded - I placed the camera on the ground.
week 2: I focused on ascending - I placed the camera on the ground facing upwards.
This week I will focus on being grounded (descending) while reaching upwards (ascending) all the while holding on to the center (the camera will always remain on the ground). That’s the plan anyway.

still thinking about
ascending while descending
rising while sinking
high reaching while gravitating
going through the ceiling while grounding

Thought I’d walk around the east village during a break at work bit that didn’t happened,
so I photographed after work when the blue sky was long gone.
