World War II Relic

In my neighborhood there is a tower used during WWII to look for enemy attacks and sound the air raid.  Now it sits there like a strange  hollow palm tree.  Like a rotten pole.

Across the street there is a house that waves a Japanese flag proudly.

Man: My letter says that I need to report to room 113.

Woman:  Yes.

Man:  Here I am.

Woman:  Please take a seat and wait until your name is called.

Man: I thought you’d take a little more interest.  Seeing as I’ve actually shown up.  It looks as though I’m the only one who has actually shown up.  It’s like I deserve a gold star.

Woman: There have been others.

Man: Really?

Woman:  Here and there.  Others.  They all take a seat and wait until their name has been called.  And they all go through that door.

Man: How long is the wait?

Woman:  Can’t say.

Man: Can’t or Won’t.

Woman:  Pick one.

Man: Won’t.

Woman:  That’s too bad.

Man: What?

Woman:  Too bad.  That you have such a negativity about you.  It won’t serve you well once you go in there. Through the door.

Man: Do you know what happens when you go in there?

Woman:   Can’t say.

Man:  Can’t or won’t?

Woman: Pick one.

Man: Can’t.

(a muffled speaker says a name)

Man: That’s my name.

Woman: You’d better go.

Man: Right through that door.

Woman:  Yes.  Right through it.

Man:  What if I didn’t?

Woman:  Who knows what would happen.

Man: Do you know?  Do you know what would happen?

Woman: Can’t say.

Man: Can’t or Won’t?

Woman:  Pick one.

The walk

A sunny day is my friend. My fine lovely friend.

 legs in sun

I could be dancing. I could be swinging on a star.

There is a song in my heart when I walk, and when there is, I always stop to say hello.

family recipe

distance
has made me
transparent
ungrounded
willowy
snapped
this week
I choked up
a bitter bile
of green
it is not a family recipe
it is one of my own
and I cannot bear the taste
nor the sound
of disappointed sighs

copernicus guessed we were not the center of the universe…

Griffith Park Observatory

Today I stood on the orbit of planets.  I watched the sky carefully.  I thought, even though we are not the center,  every point is central.
