Fresh Mint in the Breeze

Bon Voyage to Kerstin and Russ

Is it Method?

Or Madness?
This was a Wild Hare idea the popped up at 4:30pm just before headding over to Russ and Kerstins Farewell Party. I’ve always wanted to make Mojitos and this group of friends is simply the best damn company. Even better when the best damn cocktails are involved. So here’s my custom Recipe for mass-producing Mojito’s that have some beautiful texture and aroma.
Mojito is MoBetta’
In a blender, pour:
1 cup white rum
3-4 limes with 95% of the peel chopped away - just chuck ‘em in
1/3 cup turbinado Sugar
3-4 dashes of Bitters
mix in blender for about 15 seconds
pour in 3 cups club soda. mix for 1 extra second
pour into a glass full of ice and top with your prettiest mint sprig.
(Oh yeah - I’m the guy in the red plaid shirt =)

I got this idea late one night last Winter when my friend my friend Rob Z. threw one of these at me, ninja style, on the dance floor of Alibi Room underneath the Pike Place Market in Seattle. Rob is all about the goodness of old but great things. He DJs dance set’s with nothing but funky found 45’s and one of those old turntables they used in public schools when I was a kid. Rob makes these things cool again. Or maybe these things are just cool? Same Same.

I’ve been yanking PBR beer-can pull-tabs and other objects of the urban nocturnal landscape from the late end of parties and off the floors of Seattle music venues. When friends notice, I just tell them that it’s for my Special Purpose. Now YOU, dear reader, know what my Special Purpose really is: to create high Tr-ashion earrings. I’m going to give myself credit for hitting the Crossroads theme : between low-brow trash and high-brow style.

My pirate WiFi connection disappeared last week, so I just worked out a bridged router solution with a progressive-scooter-dude-neighbor over the weekend. I’m still two posts late, but they’re coming people. Here’s what I’m working on this very minute:
Inspired by the prolific Beef this last Saturday, I’m making my first ball of Artisan bread. Heard about how to do it on the radio and looked it up on the web. http://splendidtable.publicradio.org/recipes/accompaniments_fiveminute.shtml You can make a batch with 3-4 ingredients and a little stirring, toss the risen result in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, then just slice off a glob any time you want to bake a really tasty bread. This is just the Dough at the beginning of the rising period. The smell is inspiring. When I held the bowl up to the kitchen wall, Ms. Liberty seemed to approve.

Below is what the science experiment looked like after 90 minutes. The perfect excuse to nibble a bit. Ahhhh. Fresh rising dough flavor tastes like a promise you know will be kept =)

Looking Forward to the next 29 Days.
I wanted to catch the very first second of this event (Pacific Time) in some visual and literal way. Now to find a classic clock with a second hand. Thursday nights are jam nights at Shawn’s 5555 house, which is like a funky pastiche museum of 20th century machines often restored or hacked with upgraded technology and humor. His restored Telechron WWII era commercial clock would be perfect. While the band jammed in the basement, I chatted with his girlfriend Christine on the living room sofa waiting for the month to change.
