It is has been a difficult day and past few months. I have been through experiences that I can’t begin to describe in a blog post and probably would come out all wrong if I tried.
I took this picture of some items that have particularly special meaning to me yesterday. Today, I reflected on this picture and realized they are objects……. and in light of a new adventure that is coming up on Saturday, I had some thoughts about all of this. I am really nervous and scared for the future. I am in general a scared person. Often I have gone through things and just assumed it was about how you dealt with the shit. (excuse me).
Really, this picture doesn’t show any of my true treasures… which are the people who helped me on my way and taught me what they are. Tonight I tried to thank all of you who have helped me. My thing today was to try and thank those who have been there and helped me.
I hope you know who you are. Thank you so much.

I am sitting somewhere in that building.

This is the sweater I started at the beginning of this….. see how it grows!

I have this purple wool from Scotland and I think it deserves to become a a sweater. . . displeased with the sweater patterns I own, I thought I would rise to the occassion and design my own. It will be a simple design as this is my first time going down this path. Let’s see what comes from this experiment!

I was invited to prepare a few sample hats for a store here in Brooklyn for next winter. This is one of the hats.

The fabric is vintage… given to me by mom… who received this fabric from one of our family members when she was visiting the UK. There were enough leftovers from whatever project that was for me to make this dress.
I love it.
Pattern: Simplicity
Fabric: Wool..blue with flecks of many other colors

Jacket..
Though it has been sprinkling snow all over, I am still thinking of spring. . . and what says spring better than a lighter jacket?
It’s almost done, but to make it something I will love forever, I am sending it off to my favorite pro sewer (my mom) to make some minor adjustments and finish it up.
Pattern: Simplicity
Fabric: Wool exterior

Rain, Rain GO AWAY
It’s raining here in Brooklyn…again. I keep looking through the crack in the blinds each morning expecting warm sunshine and then I hear it….rain.
Though you make for a good movie night, a blue sky on a winter’s day is very beautiful to me.

Endangered species tattoo #1
Tattoos are stories in themselves. This is a simple fact and an interesting one. You can always ask someone why they have a tattoo once you spot it and where it is (if you can’t see it).
I dont really have any tattoos, but I am thinking about this one. The endangered species tattoo.
Last night I watched ‘Eastern Promises’ , a film where the main character has many tattoos. There is a scene in the film where a detective mentions, something to the effect that a person without any tattoos might, well, never have existed; that tattoos tell the story of your life.
… and so I arrived at the Blue whale drawing that then became the semi-permanent tattoo on my forearm. The Blue whale is a symbol of a species that might not make it through my lifetime. Perhaps I would like you, distant stranger, to know that endangered species are something I care about. Sentimental I am not, but I appreciate these creatures and the ocean they inhabit.

She is Still A Red Ribbon Girl
Inspired by a German novella I am reading, ‘Mine-Haha: The Corporal Education Of Young Girls’ by Frank Wedekind.

Also inspired by the Charley Harper and his bird images as featured in Audobon.

my white yarns
Originally uploaded by napoleah
A little known secret, I am obsessed with natural white yarn. Yummy chunky alpaca yarn, yarn from a little known farm in upstate NY where the owner is as obsessed with white as I am, yarn from the UK, yarn from South America.
I love the textures and the variations. I find it very inspiring and perfectly paired with a yummy hot drink on misty gray mornings, such as today.

I read something about atoms this morning and music. I then was sewing the thing that I thought would become my post for today, when I spilt my box of pins. I drew them and then drew them digitally.
Making this inspired me to think about shapes and forms. Then I thought some about mass produced metal objects. . . which is where I think tomorrow will take me.

Brain: I want candy.
Fridge: You really need to eat the apples…
Solution: Apple tart!
The Internet here in Brooklyn was bad today, I wanted candy (I am trying to live more sustainably this year— so for me this means make as much as I can from scratch…more on this another day) and what could I do? Cook. There actually are 3 mini apple tarts in total.
While cooking I realized I needed to start working on a mobile for my mobile swap and also made this little owl friend to keep watch on the tart while I figure out who to invite for tea tomorrow. Are you interested?
