“And when I speak of change, I do not mean a simple switch of positions or a temporary lessening of tensions, nor the ability to smile or feel good. I am speaking of a basic and radical alteration in those assumptions underlining our lives.” –Audre Lorde

dream jar

1.) clean jar first. spotty glasses make the dreams harder to see.
2.) fill with favorite quotes, pictures, wishes for the future, and remnants from the past.

some random person

photogirl.jpg

The picture above must be so random (freakish? popish? fashiony?) but I wanted to practice my photoshop skills and try colorization. When I first learned how to use photoshop (late high school on my own, as my skills probably show) I used a lot of my time entering online contests where you could compete against other people to see who could create the best blends, images, etc. I quickly searched for a colorization challenge online today and found Abyssfull Challenges. The image below is the original one given to colorize and the challenge website doesn’t say who she is. I didn’t do it to see if I could make the image better (I like black and whites) but more of to put what I know into practice.

why yes, it IS another shirt!

this is a shirt i made today with an iron-on. it was surprisingly easy to use. i designed the image on photoshop using quotes that i’ve been saving for a long time, mostly about real change and vision (not the crap presidential candidates talk about). they are quotes i’ve read in books (the revolution will not be funded is the title of one of my favorite books), seen on blogs, copied onto free-for-all stencils, heard in songs and stolen from friend’s email signatures.

because music is art

one of the reasons i wanted to do thing-a-day was so i could come up with some random i-love-you gifts for friends. i used today’s opportunity to be creative to put together some mix cds and decorate them.

day3

is it just me or are the posts on thing-a-day getting better as we go along? it’s been real cool seeing what everyone is making, whether it’s pancakes to feed 50 people, kufi caps, or short stories.

today i was inspired by thinkfreestyle’s idea of decorating an old crappy calendar into something new. i took a pocketbook size one that i got for free and collaged it with images from a postcard collection that the justseeds collective puts out (that’s the back panel image), this summer’s fringe festival in dc (the red eyes on the front), a blue sticker from the pro-choice public education project, and random pictures that i’ve been collecting from magazines for awhile.

Midnight Day 2 Posting

8 minutes behind on day 2 but this is the tube top I made today out of a tshirt from a culture fest from this summer. Still trying to decide if I’m going to hem the top or have it naturally curl down. Hmm….

injured myself with today’s post

i’m kind of cheating with this post, i started making this shirt over christmas break and after 2 more hours today, finished it.  it took a lot more work than i originally thought (stenciling it, making the straps look strappy, getting it tighter, making it fitted.)  to get a “before shot” idea in your head, it was a plain x-large men’s tshirt made of jersey cotton material. the words are stenciled w/ acrylic paint. : )

getting ready for tomorrow!

Very excited about this project and being amongst a collective group of creative people expressing themselves through different mediums. My primary interest is disability culture and community so it is most likely that a lot of the things I make will be activisty and related to that.

Somethings I have been planning to make for a long time:

  • Buttons, buttons, and more buttons
  • Portfolio folder for poetry and writing
  • Wallet that is collaged [cut and glue pictures]
  • New Blog layout?
  • Pie : )
  • Tshirts, either stenciled, reconstructed [creating new design from old tshirt], or digitally designed

still thinking…

oh, if you’re looking for inspiration, check out brokenbeautifulpress, particularly this page.
