In few words: I’m a long-time maker and tinkerer who primarily uses recycled/reclaimed materials to make art and other objects of fancy. I work with paper, glue, old boxes, ephemera, and old pieces of hardware (computer and construction) and usually have a paint stain or two somewhere on my person. I’m almost thirty and live in Florida with my husband, brother, a terrier and three cats. I have two degrees and work with nonprofits as a day job; it’s really a privilege for my career to be as much of a passion as my creating.

Catching up: Days 1-4

Inspiration Jar

Oh, thing-a-day, I have not foresaken thee. I’ve just been busy makin’ and doin’ and procrastinatin’ at putting up pictures. Here’s a catch up of my productivity thus far:

Day 1: Made a list of prompts for the remainder of the month. (Warning, that link is to a three-page PDF.)

Day 2: Decorated an inspiration jar (see above) for said prompts.

Day 3: Made a low-rent version of a light tent/diffuser per Strobist’s instructions.

Day 4: Try out light diffuser and take photos of various projects thus far, including a memory book I made for a family member.

This has been a lot of fun and really pushed me to make things that have long been on my to-do list (I originally book marked that Strobist link in December 2006, for example!).

More photos of my inspiration jar and other fun with my light tent are in my Flickr photostream.

Is there a way to comment whilst logged in that links back to your own thing-a-day posts because, if so, I haven’t figured it out yet. Halp?

Five more days!

My plan for this week:

  1. Sit down with a stack of my old crafting magazines (ReadyMade, Somerset Studio, ClothPaperScissors, Blueprint);
  2. Put post-it tabs on techniques and projects I want to try;
  3. Make a supplies list and make sure I have everything I might need;
  4. Count up projects and hope it adds up to 29!

Jumping in

C’est moi

I’m a long-time maker and tinkerer who primarily uses recycled/reclaimed materials to make art and other objects of fancy.

The plan, such as it is

1. To do a 1×1-inch sketch every day. I’m not much of a drawer, but I started these one-inch things once before and was impressed with the way your skills increase if you keep at it enough. I’ll never be able to sell my drawings, but it is something I’d like to get better at just for my own pleasure.

2.  To make one other thing every day:  an ATC, a book mark, a well-thought out post to my new creativity blog. I also have a few of those devilish to-do projects hanging around that just  need to be completed and to stop hanging over my head. I plan to use Thing-a-day as a motivation to accomplish those, too.
