…can really take up all your time. I’ve basically had non-stop fevers here since the 14th, topping out at 103.9. I’m drawing, but I sure don’t have the time to scan, resize, and up-load them. Wish me luck, and I’ll do a massive catch-up when I can.

Six kinds of folds. These will eventually be examples for a rant on how fabric folds work.

Tovey, age 2, napping. I really like this one.

She was asleep on the chair and it was perfect. I hope it comes across ok.

This I’m happy with. I know I can shade a shape, and I’m remembering some of the stuff I used to know. The egg is milky glass, and has really interesting translucency.

This was really fun! I asked my partner to hand me something I could hold, but I didn’t look to see what it was. I drew the big one in the middle first. I knew what it was right away, of course, but it was interesting how details I could only feel were different than ones I could see. Next was the lower right one - looking only at the object, not at the paper at all. I think it’s my favorite. Top right, only the shadows. Lower left, concentrating on texture. I remember now what the fifth one should be - draw only the outside edges of the thing. I’ll probably add that in, *maybe* even re-scan it. Later.

Nature is not orderly. The snow in the cupping of the roof tiles didn’t scan well. I find I’m losing a lot of tiny detail in the scanning process. Hmm.

The scan doesn’t show any of the freckles or scars or faded burn marks. Too bad.

Really. The tiny labyrinth of tubes in my inner ear is sick. There’s a tiny viral infection that’s put fluid where it shouldn’t be. As a result, I have motion sickness unless I’m Perfectly Still. No driving, no bending, and looking at the computer screen is kind of making me dizzy. Lying down, I feel fine. Sitting up is tolerable if I’ve been lying down recently and if I can brace myself so as to not feel like I’m about to fall over. The good news: it should clear up completely. In a couple weeks. Anybody want to come do a thing-a-day with an active toddler??

No matter how much he looks like a cute one in this sketch. He’s two, we were having lunch, I did my best. Two year-olds are wiggly and hard to capture in sketches.
The eyes are pretty darn good in that they actually look like his eyes. The hair and ears and chin are ok too. Not so much the cheeks and nose and mouth. Chewing causes difficulty.

The first actual drawing exercise I ever did as a kid was to cover an 8.5X11 sheet of paper with one line, and only right angle turns were allowed. Another thing I hadn’t done in several decades. This one was way more fun and is more interesting to look at as a finished thing than the ones I made way back when.

The funny thing about this is that there’s one of the one kid, and over a dozen of the other. It really captures the quieter, stiller nature of the one and the more active, dramatic nature of the other. Seriously, all Seb did was maybe sit up some from time to time.

Self Portrait at 36. This is the first self-portrait I’ve done in 12 years, first head-only in probably 20 years. I like the hair and the nose and the head shape, but the eyes are a bit odd. Eyes in self portraits are always a bit odd.

Thanks to Jess for alerting me to this!
Who: I’m a textile artist, role-playing game player/designer, and mom of three. I also teach. I’m pretty creative, but I’m doing something I rarely do for this: draw with plain old pencil and paper. Yay! I know I’m going to miss my Photoshop, but I’m hoping it works out for me. Good luck, all!
