Today I just did some sketches of Tiki heads in my new sketchbook. The first one, in the upper left is based on a souvenir from our honeymoon in Hawaii. I might do color versions of some of these guys later. The octopus on the previous page was a Valentine card for my charges at the after school program. I never got around to posting it until now. Our classroom is called “the Octagon.”

I drew these using a Wacom tablet in Flash.

I was out all day until 9 pm, so I didn’t get started on my thing until late. I thought an owl would be appropriate for this late night.

It’s a jackalope! He’s very tiny, and I think it would have been better with finer glitter. I’m going to work on it some more tomorrow — maybe cover the edges with satin ribbon.

I was sketching with a china marker and I made this little squirrel.

Yesterday I made chocolate fondue, but we ate it so there are no pictures.
Today I felt like trying out some new origami models. I found the instructions on this site. It’s all in Japanese, so it was a little harder to follow along. There are a ton of models and the diagrams are clear enough. I made a Valentine heart and some cute little blossoms. I think the blossoms would make good earrings.

I made this illustration for Illustration Friday. Their theme this week is “Choose”. I could only think of standardized tests, which start creating anxiety in kids around this time every year.

Today I made sand candles with the kids in my after school program. I put some sand in a big tray, and each kid made a hole in the sand. We put wicks in the holes, then I poured in some hot wax. The kids really liked this project and the candles came out pretty funky looking. The sand formed a skin around each candle, and the wax flowed out of the holes, forming irregular shapes. The finished candles resemble chunks of deep-fried food more than anything else. I left the candles at the school, so I don’t have a picture tonight, but I’ll try to post one soon.

This was a craft project I did with the kids I work with. We decorated plain wooden hearts with paper, pipe cleaners, ribbon, glitter and markers. I liked mine so I took it home and hung it up.

This was just a little experiment using glitter and some other odds and ends I had lying around. I’m not sure what I think of it.

I’ve been working on this scarf for a while, and I finally finished knitting it just a few minutes ago. I still need to block it, and I’m going to add a row of buttons at one end. I used this pattern.

I had some trouble with my first post, so I’ve been putting it off for the last few days. Here’s what I’ve been working on in the meantime: a bead necklace, a hand bound journal, and five little paper cranes.

I got a late start today, but I had some glitter lying around and some tiny little canvases. I think he looks like a cross between Bigfoot and an alien. I had to move the image to my blog.
