I’m trying out some quick
sketching. I was watching the Beatles’ first trip to the US and did four pages of sketches… this is just one.

Thing a day 17 - aluminum

Today I helped others create. I taught a group of 35 teenagers how to
express themselves through writing and visual journaling. I used the
“morning pages” technique and then set ‘em loose with art supplies.

Day 14 was a wash. (although there’s one hour left). Vday, Arts League meeting (I’m on the board), catching up on articles leaves little time for the fun stuff..

Back to drawing. My art teacher says I need to work more on shading &
value. So here’s another attempt. My perspective’s a bit off.

Thing a day 11 - war paint
Originally uploaded by emberlexi
Photocopied a picture of my face to use in my art journal & used ‘em here. Acrylic paints, gesso & pen on this one. I’m theme-less these past few days, but I suppose I can cheat and use the TAD theme “paper”
No pictures since I was just testing out a new squirrel mop brush I bought (splurged) on - I painted lines of various thicknesses to test out the versatility of the brush (got some nice fine lines with it), did a couple wet on wet splotches, nothing I’d really want to show.

Thing A Day 9 - "edges" - collage
Originally uploaded by emberlexi
Sat down & tore up some paper. Used “Edge” & “Paper” from the Thing A Day Themes.
It’s not quite finished… something’s missing but I need time to think about it.

Thing A Day 8 - inktense

Again, something a little different. drawing, but not so realistic. Played with Derwent Inktense pencils & Sharpie Poster Paint pens.
Drawn while basking in the lovely music from Bill Mallonee live at Rhythm & Hues in Marietta, GA.

Thing a day 7 - finished mushroom book
Originally uploaded by emberlexi
Figured I would finish the book I started yesterday.
Painted the cover, added color accents to the mushrooms, bound it with a harlequin stitch & filled it with ledger paper cut to size.

Thing a Day 5 - something different
Originally uploaded by emberlexi
Took a break from drawing to work on journal covers. Here’s one I’m
really excited about. It got a coat of metal primer and now it needs
some paint to bring out the mushrooms.

I’m not too happy with this one. Drew it in my drawing class today. Getting the hang of the graphite, but I’m still not drawing what I’m seeing…

Another detail of the fish. I set aside yesterday’s drawing since the
eyes were giving me a hard time.
I’m getting the hang of shading & drawing without hard lines… still don’t like graphite much.

This one’s still in progress. Made a viewfinder out of cardboard (no that’s not cheating) to help with the composition. I felt like focusing in on a detail today.
I’ll definitely need more time on this one.
My drawing teacher wants me to bring in this & yesterday’s work (and my college drawings) to her kid’s class for a “Dog & Pony” show as she called it. Guess she thinks I’m doing well, eh?
Thinking of working on my drawing, using the same subject for a whole week… just need some ideas for subjects…
