Played with some led lights that showed up in the mail today. I’m hoping to incorporate them somehow into the dance piece I’m choreographing. I put one in the origami lily I made last week… kinda neat looking!

ALSO! Over the course of this thing-a-day-thing, my craft/art supply storage area has gotten messed uuuuuup! I finally straightened it today.

din din. nom nom nom.
Running out of steam here. Feels like a cop out, but I’m calling dinner my thing for today. It WAS kind of creative… kind of a free association/see what’s in the fridge/make it up as I go along kind of thing.Kind of. Brown rice pasta (avoiding wheat for a while to see if my GI system responds positively), onion, mushrooms, prosciutto, spicy salami, pear tomatoes, spinach, parmesan. Nom nom nom. Pretty tasty. I also took a modern dance class this evening from a fabulous teacher who is a guest from Seattle, originally from Ecuador. During the warm-up he repeatedly instructed us to “roll onto you side eento a leeetle ball.” Here’s what was left of dinner before we went back for seconds:

doodled during a monday a.m. staff meeting
Doodled at 9:30 this morning as I slurped coffee and pretended to be awake. Colored in Photoshop when I got home. These guys are definitely on something - you can tell by the eyes.

seattle weatherman challenge
When I was pursuing my graphic design degree almost ten years ago, I had to take an illustration class. One assignment was to draw 25 thumbnail-sized celebrity faces. It was a good exercise because in the end, each sketch either was recognizable as that celebrity or it wasn’t. I got pretty good at it with practice, but its been a long time. I tried again tonight, with Seattle tv weathermen. I definitely need more practice. Any Seattleites want to make a guess who these are supposed to be? First correct response may or may not get a prize!

liza and skylab
I’m gearing up to start choreographing a dance piece for a collaborative show in April. I’ve been listening to the music I’m using, “Tin Foil” (originally by The Handsome Family, performed by Andrew Bird [LOOOOOOVE him. Huge fan here, people.]) over and over. There’s one line in there that I can’t get out of my head: ”Liza Minnelli spent a month in her bed. She was certain that Skylab would fall on her head.”Sooo… I googled this, and it’s more or less true. Apparently, a heavily self-medicated Liza was convinced that if she left her house she would be hit by debris from Skylab during its re-entry.
Uh, that’s a hat she’s holding, btw… ala Cabaret. Kinda hard to tell.

paper lily
I couldn’t find my origami paper, but I think the random office printouts that I used instead look neat. How to here.

poky little scruffy
This picture was based on a photo of my dog Scruffy when he was a puppy… I added the lizard as an homage to my favorite Little Golden Book from childhood, The Poky Little Puppy.

railroad avenue, bellingham - day 2
Typical February day in the Northwest… grey as can be. Nice and cozy inside the bakery though.Colored in Photoshop.

railroad avenue, bellingham
I’m trying to push the boundaries of my comfort zone, drawing-wise. Less whimsy, more realism. I started drawing this bike during my lunch break, and half-way through, someone came and rode away on it. But…. noooooooooo! So I had to wing the rest of it. I didn’t realize until just a minute ago that the size of the bike compared to the scale of the parking meter is INSANE!!!?! It’s a bike for a pygmy, apparently… or a parking meter for Manute Bol. My husband convinced me not to fix that detail in Photoshop, claiming that it gives the drawing *charm*. What a nice guy. I think I’ll ask him to be my valentine.

aimless february sketches
This drawing had no direction… I wanted to practice lettering, chose the word “February”… and then? I dunno, something seemed very *february-y* about the potted hyacinth on top of the wood stove. You’re smelling what I’m stepping in, right? Maybe not.

The designer in me is really bothered by the lack of balance on the page… but I like my socks.
