Day 19
Okay, finally caught up.
I did a self-portrait sketch off of a photo, not super happy with the results, but I’m working on it.
Here’s the sketch:

I dyed these tights (supposedly navy, but actually looks more purple) in the bathtub. I plan to do another pair and try to get a more gradual gradient.

I put these seeds in a ziploc bag in a warm place about a week ago. And today they are finally big enough to plant. So, I’ve made these makeshift greenhouses to try and keep them warm (its pretty chilly in our house).

(A day behind again - computer problems last night)
I made these knitted olives for my husband for Valentine’s Day. He loved them.

(I tried to post this last night but the servers were down?)
Okay, so recovering from bronchitis.
Tonight I had class on InDesign again and I designed this poster: a travel ad for Japan.
Travel poster.
Also, a bit more progress on my wristwarmers.

I haven’t been posting because I haven’t been doing anything besides coughing and napping. Today I feel a little better, so hopefully I’m on an upswing.
This poem, culled from words in a newspaper article, is inspired by the work of Austin Kleon, writer/artist, who originated the “black-out poem”. See his work here: http://www.austinkleon.com/portfolio/newspaper-blackout-poems/
Unfortunately, all I had was the letters to the editor section of an old Reader to work with. Next time I’ll have to plan ahead and get a real newspaper.

Okay, so back to one of the reasons I started this thing-a-day project, doing some sketching. One is inspired by the work of Keri Smith and my newfound love of all sorts of maps. The second is Andrew Jackson’s portrait, taken from a $20 bill, which struck me because of his feminine attributes - the hair, the pursed lips, the articulated eyes. Both are in my little Kolo sketchbook in pencil.

Okay, so because my class meets again tomorrow, and because my etsy shop needs an update, I’ve developed a new business card and letterhead. It still needs a little tweaking, but I am pretty happy with this. I feel like I’m doing better with InDesign. It is pretty intuitive, but there are some things I miss from Photoshop (mainly the history function). Kwallets Business Card

So, it isn’t exactly another project (is that cheating?) but I’ve made some progress on my wrist warmers. All that is left for this one is the thumb.
I’ve also been working on the portfolio, though my computer crashed tonight, so I can’t show another screen shot. (I’m actually writing on my husband’s laptop right now…)
Tomorrow, we are back on track for a new project.
So, today’s project is working on my portfolio. I used blurb.com’s Booksmart software to start crafting a physical book portfolio. I’m finding the layouts to be somewhat limiting, but you can’t beat their prices, so I am working with it. (I also thought the same thing when I did my wedding album in MyPublisher.com’s software.)
Obviously, I didn’t finish, and it will take a lot of finessing, but I am happy with my progress thus far.
(I learned about Blurb through Offbeat Bride: http://offbeatbride.com/2008/01/blurbs-wedding-book-show-tell#referrer)
So, I’ve wanted to start this knitting project for some time now, as I have desperately needed them in my chilly house - wrist warmers. Perfect for working on the computer, or doing other knitting! Didn’t get too far, but not much time today.

Okay, because it is inventory weekend, I didn’t get home until quite late, and after working on my project, went straight to bed. This is iteration one of a business card I need to make for my graphics class at the Art Institute. It definitely needs some work. Business Card
Okay, it’s January 27th and I’ve decided to do this. Even though I am the inventory manager Crate and Barrel store #115, and our bi-annual inventory is Feb. 2. So, it may be a slow start.
But I’m committing myself to this because:
