Here’s the secret thingy I made on Day 28 :

And here it is all busted up:

I gave it to Danielle last Saturday.
Today, I stole something and made something with it, and I’m going to give it as a gift as if it were my own. (Don’t worry; nothing I did is actually illegal.)
But all you get for a picture is this one clue:

Time spent: about 20 minutes.
Today’s Thing-A-Majig is another square for the War Vet Afghan I started on Day 1.

I used different shades and switched up the pattern. (New one on the right; old one on the left.)
Time spent: 28 minutes.
The trouble with this scarf pattern was that it is crocheted length-wise. I don’t do length-wise; it makes me nervous. So, a while ago I charted the pattern to be worked width-wise. It has been hibernating in my Ravelry projects ever since.
This evening, I spent some time testing my chart. Turns out, my chart works quite well, but it took a few tries to get the gauge and width just how I wanted it.

The one I’m keeping is the one with fringe. Click here for the flickr image and notes showing which one is made with which hook.
Time spent: Let’s say an hour.
I finished reverse engineering a GAP scarf today and knit up enough of it to prove it works. The free pattern can be found here.

Time spent: quite a bit.
My husband and I decided to make English muffin pizza for dinner, and I’m posting it because woodlover did. (Copy cat!)

If you go to flickr, you can see what is on each one.
Time spent: 25 minutes or so, including lots of snacking and picture-taking (and some of the baking).
I made two more clothed corks today. These are Korknisse #4 and #5 in my ever-growing collection. (I have the pattern completely memorized now, which is very convenient for impromptu cork-sized sweater-knitting!)
I also made this elephant from Ana Paula Rimoli’s new book Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet. I completely underestimated how much yarn it would take and overestimated how much yarn I had so I ran out of gray-ish yarn after made his ears. He’s wearing footsy pajamas now.

Time spent: quite a bit, but who cares? I got to leave work early on account of all the snow!
This is the second Korknisse I’ve made. (The other one was quite a while ago, so I had forgotten how freaking easy and fun these little cuties are!)

I forgot to do the two rows of stockinette after the ribbing on his hat, but I liked the resulting shortness of the hat, so I didn’t re-do it.
Time spent: about 1/2 hour.
I colored and assembled the paper critter I made on Day 15!
Here he is:

(Side shot here.)
Time spent: about 20 minutes.
I casted on and knit the sole and 4-1/2 rows of these booties. I fear they may be too scratchy, but we’ll see once they’re all finished and washed in baby shampoo…
Time spent: about an hour.
I went to You’re Fired in Salem, NH with Danielle this afternoon and painted a bowl. I totally forgot to take a picture in its unfired state, but I’ll put it up in a week when I get it back.
Time spent: about an hour?
True story: a couple of guys see a need for something cheaper than animal lard to make candles. So they invent the method for partially hydrogenating vegetable oil. People love it. Then, somebody else harnesses electricity, and people don’t need candles anymore. So the two guys say, “Hey, this looks like lard! Let’s tell people they can eat it and bake with it and let it do all the things butter can do!” That’s where Crisco came from.
I sent Crisco back to it’s roots.

I’ve been saving this stick for a long time just for this purpose.
I let it burn for about 15 minutes, and worked on my long-neglected, ridiculously huge, single-crocheted afghan in the meantime.
Crisco has changed its recipe lots of times over the years. Recently, they even removed the trans fat (partially hydrogenated oils). They still use fully hydrogenated oils, however, and new studies are saying those are even worse.

Don’t eat Crisco. Make a candle instead.
Time spent: about 20 minutes.
I found out about papercritters.com from some other Thing-A-Dayers. 3-D papercraft seems like a pretty neat-o li’l activity, so I indulged.
Here’s a dude I designed. I’ll post a picture of him all colored, folded, and pasted as soon as he’s done! I named him Smudge.

Time spent: about a half hour.
After our hot date full of good food and live piano, we came home and watched LOST. (WHAT??!!) I colored a picture from the coloring book my dad got for my bridal shower (long story involving very concealing pajamas and making sure I know I’m still his little girl). (Awwwww….)
Time spent: about a half hour.
I’m a collector of images. I took out this one today chopped it up, and drew it.

Man, that looks tasty…
Time spent: about 20 minutes.
Dan (my husband) helped me browse our iTunes music collection to pick out good songs for a gym mix. I call it “Don’t Be Fat (Again)” because I had an awesome “Don’t Be Fat” mix a long time ago, but it got deleted.
The playlist is full of peppy songs and lasts 32 minutes - just enough time for a healthy elliptical session.
“Don’t Be Fat (Again)” A compilation by Kimberly Pye
Time spent: about 40 minutes.
