Day 12 - Black Bean Chilli
I am doing other stuff besides cooking - honest! This vegetarian recipe comes from the awesome Greens cookbook. Every recipe from that book so far has been delicious.

I got a wonderful book for Christmas last year - on how to draw watercolour flower portraits. I was so inspired I went down to the flower market a few minute’s walk from my flat and bought an orchid this morning. My plan is to practice drawing the orchid and then paint it. This is my first attempt at drawing.
I had a leftover bunch of flat leaf parsley in the fridge, so I made pesto, vaguely following this recipe. No parmesan though. Might eat it later in the week with some fresh tomatoes and bread.
I’ve revised the animatic and storyboard for my 11 second club entry - it’s here if you want to take a look.
I’m a little late in posting these, but yesterday lunchtime I popped over to the British Museum and did some quick sketches. The man and horse is the work of ancient Greek crafstmen, although it was found in Italy. The bird statue is about a meter high, made of stone, and from ancient Egypt. Both sketches done with brush pens.
Unfortunately I couldn’t embed this (stupid wordpress!) so hop over to YouTube if you would like to take a look at my storyboard for the 11 second club - now with dialogue!
Today I drew out rough storyboards/thumbnails for the animation I’m working on for this month’s 11 second club competition. Tomorrow I’ll put it into a little animatic with the dialogue - at the moment I imagine it’s all a bit meaningless!
Today I built a set for use in a 3D animation that I will be working on this month. I’m entering the February 11 Second Club animation competition, along with one of my work colleagues, and all the action will take place in this virtual stairwell set.
This is the finished product! See here for information on the recipe and a before photo. I would have posted this last night - but after eating a huge plate with really creamy mash potato and quite a bit of red wine, I could barely move, let alone post.
My plan this evening for the first thing-a day is to turn all this into this…
It may be a bit of a cheat, as I was planning to do this anyway - I’ve got some friends coming over for dinner. But I’ve never made the recipe before. It’s from the awesome SBS cooking show Food Safari - every episode, the host goes to the houses of Australians of a particular heritage - say one week to Italian Australians, or Lebanese, or Japanese Australians, and gets them to cook their traditional dishes, then eats them and makes yummy noises. The videos of all the recipes are online - watching them is addictive.
I got the braising beef steak from this butcher shop in Holborn - it’s convenient because it’s on my way to work, but it’s also a pretty special butcher shop - their napoli sausages alone are absolutely delicious.
As for the recipe - I’ve sealed the meat and prepped all the veggies - it’s ready to start cooking as soon as I get back from work. Then I too will hopefully be making yummy noises….
