Oh man, I think I’m keeping this one. Hey it’s "day 28," right on! One more day. I cannot get the colors just right on this image and it’s bugging me. The pink should be a tad more neon and the purple should have a smidge less blue.

Day 22: Creamy Potato Soup
Potato is one of my favorite soups because there doesn’t have to be dairy (I’m lactose intolerant) in the recipe. I didn’t photograph the blah-looking, but delicious-tasting bowl I just cooked up, so I’ll share the recipe. Very easy . . .
You’ll need:
Potatoes, Salt and Pepper, Water, green onions and bacon (optional!)
PLUS: a medium-sized saucepan, a blender, and a cutting board and knife
Here we go . . . .
Wash and Peel (or not) your potatoes. Chop them up into medium-sized chunks. I used four potatoes, but you can use however many you want.
Boil enough water to cover the potatoes. I filled, half-way, a medium sized pan. Then add the potatoes carefully to the boiling water (along with a little salt and pepper - the potato broth is part of the soup). Cook the potatoes until they are fork-tender.s
While the potatoes are cooking, chop three green onions. If you’re not veggie, also cook 3 or 4 strips of bacon. When the bacon’s crisp, you’ll want to chop it up. I use a mini-chopper.
Ok, so your potatoes are all nice and done. Use a slotted spoon to move your cooked potatoes over to a blender container. Yep. You really do need a blender. Only fill the belender about half-way full. Pour potato broth straight from the pan into the blender - enough to cover the potatoes. Add some of the onions (proportionate with the amount of the potato/broth mixture) and bacon. Then cover and blend until smooth.
If you have more potatoes an broth remaining in your pan, you’ll transfer what’s in the blender over to an empty bowl. Then finish up by blending what’s left, making it all smooth. You may not want to use every bit of the broth. You will have to determine that based on the consistency of your soup.
This is how I made my soup today. You can add shredded cheese, roasted garlic, or any number of other ingredients to suit your fancy. Just remember that if you are going to make a Vegan version of this dish, you might want to add more salt to compensate for the lack of bacon or cheese.

Day 21: MORE coffee cup sleeves
Oh I’m lame. I spent a while this morning making a half-dozen coffee cup sleeves in an additional print. I definitely made my “thing” today, but I’d hate to post a picture of the same thing that I’ve posted three times already. I meant to get around to making a totally different thing, but we were kind of busy the remainder of today.

Day 20: cup sleeves
No, really, I have simplified the process and they are quite effective. I was getting all fancy with the binding and the closure and that’s all super-nice, but this is simple enough to keep the price low (there’s still hand-sewing involved) so more people might actually start using them. Also, they are reversible, easily. They use up my great scraps! I should be glad that more people are starting to make them. I don’t know if I’ll be successful when I do start attempting to sell them, but I hope. . .I mean I hope people will be conscientious enough to give it a try. I use mine now and I feel like my coffee is cuter.
Ha!

Day 18: Kid’s Apron from recycled materials

I have made quite a few of these. This one, specifically, utilizes my husband’s shirt (the back and part of the front) plus a bit of my daughter’s jeans (I used the denim for the star applique). Cutting up his shirt was great in that it kept him from wearing it anymore. That think was fading in places and not very professional. The reverse side of the apron is scrappy patchwork. The straps are scraps leftover from other projects that used this bandana skull print.

Day 15: veggie pasta salad - yum!

This is for our get-together tomorrow night. We’re having some friends over, so I wanted to make some stuff ahead of time. I strayed only slightly from the original recipe, which was from The Imus Ranch cookbook (Deidre Imus). THEN I made the Maple-Glazed Pecans! So good!
This is a great cookbook, though I felt funny buying something “Imus” in the midst of the controversy. It’s the ranch they run for kids who’ve suffered with health issues. It’s mostly vegan, with vegetarian alternatives. I found this at Half-Price Books.

Day 13: Valentine Sugar Cookies

These cookies are accompanied by the school directory and Lynda Barry’s My Perfect Life. This is my fourth or fifth batch of cookies - these are made with brown eggs and turbinado sugar (except the sprinkles). I’m having a really bad day, but only because I fixate on the bad things sometimes. Must think happy thoughts.

Day 12: Purse!

Today was my littlest one’s first day of preschool (for 4 hours) and I managed my time very well. I bought ingredients for dinner, started dinner (I cooked and shredded the chicken for enchiladas), and cleaned . . . oh! I even watched a movie! Back to the important part - this bag has lots of trims adorning the flap, a couple of vintage buttons, and TONS of texture! It’s lined in the red floral fabric I used the other day in the sash I posted.
