thing-a-day no. the last!

I thought I would end thing-a-day with a true-to-life self-portrait, and drawing of a friend. I’m the nose-ringed miscreant on the left. On the right is fellow poster and secret furry Calvin. HAHAHAHAH
Bye everyone, I really enjoyed reading and commenting on your posts

I finally started editing the video for which the bird helmet had originally been created. I forgot to take a screenshot of the footage (I have to edit at school because my decrepit machine faints like a sissy at the sight of HD files); above is a photo that Han took while we were filming. Check out my “ace pins”, hyuk

I drew this while watching this 90’s telemovie series from the UK called Cadfael on the internet; adapted from the novels of the same name, the series showcases the exploits of a murder mystery-solving Benedictine monk named Cadfael during the High Middle Ages. It’s some pretty good shit, ah tell you what

A portrait of some shlump who smokes in the tub (pencil, 01 Staeder pigment liner, Proto-schlop color)

thing-a-day no. 12:

Continuing with Ranjit’s suggestion, I went ahead and drew a z-wolf an den zwölften Tag because IT’S STILL FUNNY! LARF LARF LARF

Thing-a-day no. 11!

T-A-D poster Ranjit suggested that I draw an elf für dem elften Tag, and so I did, because it’s funny. Yuk it up, you Deutsch-sprechende yokels! This drawing is in tribute to Rice Krispies. Surprisingly, it also fits one of this week’s thing-a-day themes, little people.
(mechanical pencil then 005 sakura micron pen, and Higgins Black Magic ink and cheap sable brush for the tree, on shit sketchbook paper, then scanned and colored with the magical blood of forest nymphs … in Photoshop)

oh man, here’s thing-a-day no. 10:

This was a huge pain in the ass to deal with, and now I can’t stand the sight of it.

thing-a-day no. 9:

I really hate it when I’m walkin’ around town, and some random ne’er-do-well on the street insists that I smile. What???? When you put $500 and a roast chicken in my hands, then I’ll fucking smile, ALRIGHT

ach, Mensch! it’s thing-a-day no. 8 (I ain’t never catchin’ up):

Just some naked guy with Azn pop star hair. Why did I draw this

I’m fallin’ behind. Thing-a-day no. 7:

I borrowed the pants and shirtlessness from Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and the hat was inspired loosely by the Holy Virgin Russian Orthodox Cathedral on Geary & 26th in the Outer Richmond. The shoes are lifted directly from the pages of this month’s W magazine.
I used a .5 mechanical pencil then a .1 Staedler pigment liner pen on sketchbook paper, same as always. I had to omit her feet because I ran out of paper, so I drew another pair of legs (replete with shoes) on tracing paper, and then I composited and colored in Photeauschoppe. That’s the original drawing on the bottom.

thing-a-day no. 6

I drew this during lunch break today (pencil then Staedler pigment liner pen, on paper blah blah blah); I had been sitting next to this kid for the first three hours of figure drawing class who would NOT SHUT UP. Incidentally, I got out of class two hours early in a strange twist of “luck” because I ate this canned tuna snack from the vending machine and got a mild case of food poisoning. I swear this really happened
ANYWAY, I colored this drawing (in Faux toe chop), bearing in mind rowstyles’ suggestion that I try to resolve in two colors. YEEEEEEAH RIGHT! But I tried it anyway and boy, am I convinced

thing-a-day no. 5:

COLOR RUINS EVERYTHING!
(I colored yesterday’s drawing in Foteaux-shawp. ugh)
(EDIT: I got rid of the airbrushed crap, as per Calvin’s suggestion and now it’s a little less offensive)

I need a hat like that, for realz. Maybe I’ll make one this month????
Same ol’ shit: mech pencil on paper, then inked with Staedler Pigment Liner pens and Sakura Microns, polka dots provided by a Deleter Jr screen. I’m gonna color this for thing-a-day no. 5. Excited? I know I am!

thing-a-day no. 3 (now I’m all caught up!) :

This drawing is fan art. Not only am I a huge fan of the comic book, Ping Pong, (which is slowly being translated at that link), of the character Peko (depicted above), and of the cartoonist, Taiyo Matsumoto (he is MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE); I am also a newly minted fan of thing-a-day poster rowstyles and his fabulous hand-drawn fonts. I hate lettering because I suck at it, but there’s no cheaper way to learn than to blatantly copy someone else’s shit. I’m also a fan of Grado SR60 headphones, plain chocolate bars, boys with long hair in hats, the Korean and German languages, and bad spelling.
Drawn with a 0.05mm Staedler Pigment Liner pen on paper. Polka dots provided by a Deleter Jr. screen (ya know, the kind you have to cut out with an exacto knife and paste on yer drawing)

These two dudes I know are hosting a comedy event in March with the Kearny Street Workshop, and they asked me to draw the flyer image, sans text. The show title is Parlor Room: An Evening of Comedy; I think I kind of misunderstood what they wanted, and I drew these two dullards. yawn
(If’n yer curious, I drew this with a plain ol’ mechanical pencil on plain ol’ sketchbook paper, then I inked it with a 0.05mm Staedler pigment liner pen. After scanning the image at 600dpi, I colored it in Foto-shoppe)

I know I missed February 1st by three hours, but FUCK IT! Here’s thing-a-day no. 1:

I used duct tape and masking tape and cardboard and super glue and a dismantled motorcycle helmet. There is a hidden detachable front flap beneath the beak so that I can see out of the head while riding a bike. I made this for a super secret video project with my friends, the Invisible Cities, one of whom is fellow thing-a-day poster scontini. You like my avian myspace pose?

HELLO! my name is Hellen, and I’m a cartoonist from Trash Cancisco. My website is helllllen.org, and I’ll be simul-posting my thing-a-day posts on my own blawg too. YEAH! I can’t wait
