I’ve had a rip in the front pocket of a hoodie of mine for a while now, and last night had the impetus to fix it.

I woke up this morning, and the sun was shining brightly. My roommate was planning on taking a walk around town. I put on a long-sleeved tee and a light jacket to go out to Menlo Park. While I was making breakfast, my parents called and during the chit-chat, said, “So is it snowing up by you yet?”
I said, “No, it’s beautiful out! It’s been 55 degrees all week!”
While we were eating at White Castle, I saw white flurries out in the parking lot. They weren’t falling from the sky, but were blowing around in the wind. I couldn’t tell if it was actually snowing, or if some dust or asbestos or similarly fatal chemical had blown over from the nearby construction site. The sun was still shining, anyway.
When we left Vintage Vinyl, it was ridiculously cold and windy. I threw my bag into the car and we decided to just go straight home, curl up and watch some DVDs and play video games. On the Garden State Parkway, I turned my headlights on because it had become so gray and windy, it felt like it would rain at any moment. (more…)

This came with an embroidery iron-on/craft kit I purchased, and I thought I was so awesome that I didn’t need the silly little practice provided therein. Man, was I ever wrong. As is, I think it came out cute.

I chose a smaller picture this time because even though it’s the weekend, it may be NSFW.
Day 7: For day 7, I made…excuses. Unfortunately, there’s no visual for that…

Daleks and Cybermen unite in the name of crafts before taking on the good Doctor.

I work in promotions, making the “please watch this show now!” spots you see while watching TeeVee. I’ve recently been stressed out at work, specifically on a reality show full of teh beautiful peoples. I added this to “Follow Instructions” because I feel like I’ve been doing more of that than being creative with the source material. Here’s my interpretation of our stars, drawn at the bottom of one of my scripts with an ink pen. This is as creative as I get today

I crocheted this out of one of my amigurumi books, so the entire process was a bit of a surprise. I can’t read Japanese, but I can sort of figure out the crochet charts. Each piece as I made it was a surprise - “Oh, this is the head! Oh, this one must be a ribbon for the tie on the scarf!” What fun. She opens up at the base to reveal a little hidey hole for jewelry and such. More pictures if you click on the pic above.

Day 3’s project is a sewing machine cover for my sewing machine (duh). The pattern is from Diana Rupp’s “S.E.W. (Sew Everything Workshop)”, and is supposed to use oilcloth, but since I’m a newbie sewer and I couldn’t find any oilcloth, this is 100% cotton. Also, it’s got surfboards, which is totally gnarly.
(I didn’t get a chance to post my day 2 on the site and now it’s so late I figured I’d just link to it in this post. Here!)

Okay, so I went a bit overboard for day 1. But I think that means I got “doing huge things in a day” out of my system. Technically this took me till about 1am, but since I didn’t go to bed yet, that counts as day 1, right? IT’S STILL FEBRUARY 1 SOMEWHERE. It comes out to about 3 1/2 feet in length. I think I’ll leave it in the “free stuff” box at the office since I already have a bajillion scarves.
