Day 26 - (Re)Object #5

Week 4: Klaus and I are exploring defining objects in an image. One person takes a photograph, and the next responds with a photograph that contains one of the objects from the first, plus another image that will then be “objectified” by the next.

  • These are so great. I would love to hear more about your process. Do you hold Klaus’ image in your head, or print it out and carry it around? Do you sometimes think, “Oooh! I know JUST the thing!” or do you have to kind of wander around looking for the right image? Stuff like that.

  • Thank you!

The process has definitely differed week to week. For this week, I’ll give you my take and then ask Klaus to give us his. Depending on the image, one of three things can happen - tonight, I saw his picture (on the left) and I immediately thought of that house on my block; other days I see his picture early (and this depends on our timing) and walk around all day thinking about it (but never print it) and take several photos, after which I pick one on the computer looking at it next to his; alternatively, what happens is I will see his picture, and, because of time constraints, go out in search of a photo, in which case I am more “on a mission” to find something.

So, your guesses were all partly right. The nice thing about this daily exercise is that there is room (and a necessity, I would say) to have these differing methods of working.

  • Thank you for your comment!

This process has been an amazing experience. We’ve been working with different methods that allow us to explore the urban space freely, keeping our own questions about time and space. I usually keep Cynthia’s images in my mind and try to find a nice image to send back.

Sometimes I know where to get the right image, sometimes I just wander around till I find the right image…
