Days 19, 20, & 21 A Gift for Friends
My attempt to give some comfort to some friends of mine who are going through a medical crisis right now.
Spent 2 hours on Day 19 writing zen-like quotes on a full sheet of paper. Really meditative - I highly recommned it.
Spent 3 hours on Day 20, painting…and then going over with gesso…to make it more misty & cloudlike…the idea being that this couple doesn’t need all this good advice, but it’s there for them if they need it. Added the iris (cause I like them) and later found out the couple picked their wedding location because of wild irises that are this exact color. Sorry for blurry photo. Gave the gift so no chance to retake.

Day 21, added a blue morpho butterfly (because I love them since I was completely surprised by one about 10 years ago in Costa Rica (thought it was a blue BIRD!)) Turns out the couple went to Costa Rica for their honeymoon (I think I have that right.) Also, added Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s poem, “How do I love thee - let me count the ways.”
And LOTS of silver glitter and some circuitous paths of black and silver glitter…like fairy dust.
She liked it…and I learned a lot more about her and them…and it was a huge step for me. Glad I over-ruled all those vioices in my head that said it wasn’t good enough..wrong colors…etc etc. Took the risk.
Wish I had a photo of the final piece, but I was in a rush.

Dear kim, were you at hobees working on this piece? My friend and I, who are also on thing-a-day, saw you working on it, and wondered what you were doing. I said to her “wouldn’t it be weird if we saw her piece posted on thing-a-day?” And here you are! That made me really happy, actually! I hope you have a nice day
Wow. Yes, I was at Hobee’s working on this - feverishly - right before I met my friend. (I felt so self-concious because it was such a large piece…) Did you see the butterfly?
This coincidence makes me *happy* too!
Maybe we can get together and make art some time?
Small world.
Take Care,
Kim
