Day 20: Creep on train, self-portrait

Unintentionally, my hands look to be doing something obscene. As this is a self-portrait, good audience, you know that I was drawing at the time.

I’m sorry to show this twice… I might like it better without color or the sketchbook.

I like this a lot.. with the color (toxic neon snot!) and the sketchbook..
I also sort of get a little r.crumb from it? (maybe the allusion to obscenity plus unfavorable self portrait?)
I actually like the color one best– it feels more like you’re in a constrained tube/tunnel with your gross, boogery self. Also, the map on the back is totally lovely.
I’m seeing a little Richard Sala here, in the hand shapes and the face. The digital coloring on sketchbook (again) is really awesome. One comment (if you’re in the market) is that you could probably reduce the HEY IS THAT GUY WANKING ON THE BART? effect by just slightly thinning out the depth of the shadow above your left hand, and match it to the L shape of the hand. But that’s only if you want to reduce that effect :B
nice work!
since everyone’s on about who’s style this is reminiscent of, I’d like to volunteer KLASKY-CSUPO, the divorced ex-husband/ex-wife animation team/company that produced the amazing AAAH! Real Monsters, and Rugrats, and a variety of other sub-par series and spin-offs. ESPECIALLY the color one, that one looks very much like something they might have created.
p.s. this drawing is awesome, but you do’nt look like THAT
Damn, helllen. You win. the AAAH! connection is the correct one, if you gotta pick a connection.
Also, you guys are all better than richard fucking sala, anyway.
THE GROMBLE! That’s my Dark Lord.
Thanks for all the feedback, gang!
This drawing was purely a product of me feeling sorry for myself. References to R. Crumb, Klasky-Csupo, Richard Fucking Sala, and Gromble the Dark Lord were not intentional, but I admire them all, so I can sees how I may have internalized their styles.
The middle child in me wishes I was 100% original at all times. Maybe I should make fan art for like a year and getting all the ripping off out of my system instead.
We’re all kind of an amalgam of our own different influences.. you may be reminiscent of all those folks, but you’re definitely not a rip off of any of them either
