HopeEvey day 19

No picture, because I wrote today. It’s entirely my roommate’s fault that I started writing Buffy fan-fiction :) Here’s the very rough-draft of what I have so far:

“Oi!,” the blond man called,” you should leave some for later.”

The female vampire didn’t seem to notice at first. He was just about to pull her away from her victim, when she released the hobo’s wrist, letting it fall onto his sleeping body. She paused a moment before turning to look a question at him.

“Corpses are a pain to hide,” he said, nonchalantly leaning on the brick wall blocking that end of the alley. She opened her mouth to speak, but the hobo’s sudden snore drowned her out.

“I wasn’t planning his demise,” she said delicately, if a bit regretfully. He noticed her tone, but didn’t say anything about it. She asked him, “Have we been introduced?” She was polite, but cold, not knowing if this stranger merited her attenion or not. He grinned, turning on the charm, “No, we haven’t. May I introduce myself?” As he asked, he reached to take her hand, but hesitated, waiting for her permission. A bit of a smile tickled the corner of her lips as she let him take her hand. “I’m Spike. It’s a pleasure to meet you, dear lady. We have more in common than you may realize.” He held her gaze as she kissed her hand. The beginnings of a blush joined her nascent smile.

“I’m Savannah Chapin. Given circumstances,” she glanced from the just visible wound on the hobo’s wrist to the blond man who’d so blitely watched her drink from him, “I have an idea of what we may have in common.” They both smiled then, her a little shyly. At his offer, she took his arm, and he escorted her out of the alley, and into the darkness of pre-dawn Silver Falls.

“I”m not lilke other vampires you’ve met.” With her cheek against his throat, Savannah felt his voice as well as hear it. He felt her smile before she responded.

“You’re not like anyone I’ve met,” she said happily, “vampire or otherwise.” He smiled then, and hugged her tight. He took a deep breath as he released her, smelling her hair, and the faint perfume of her clothes. He slid away from her on the couch, and turned so they faced each other, but kept holding her hands in his.

“I can’t tell if we have this in common or not,” he said. “I have a soul. Sometimes you seem to, and sometimes you don’t. I think it’s important, but I can’t tell.” Savannah just looked at him, and didn’t know what to say at first.

“How?” she asked, finally. And he explained how he’d chosen to go through the demon trials, and earned a soul. She listened, flabbergasted. The closest thing in her experience was when Fanny’s soul took over her body, and when she’d finally gotten rid of her, she’d been saddled with Fanny’s conscionce, and Dr. Ashe’s soul.

“Does it hurt?” she asked. His laugh startled her.

“It hurts to remember some of the things I did before. But I wouldn’t go back.”
