Day 19: Thing 19: Bead Work LED array.

I think this takes the jewelry wire influence a bit far. I used a  set of glass beads to space an insulate the array wires.

In the end it was almost too pretty to embedd in the plastic.

These are getting amazingly tedious and I am dissapointed in the resin that I am using for this batch however I am going to do one more of these and wire up the array.

In the mean time I just keep singing the “Light Bright” jingel from my childhood.

Thing 19, the Owl of 40 Prospect Street

Thing 19, owl

The inspiration for this badge: in the ’70’s, my grandparents lived at 40 Prospect St, and my Grandmother collected owls. She also had some pretty large flowered wall paper in citrus tones.

dreamnt of socks, got balls of yarn

Today I made two balls of yarn.  I had planned on knitting socks for my grandmother.  How naive of me.  I found some beautiful merino wool and a free pattern online, things were looking good.  But this is as far as I got.  I know it doesn’t seem like much, but it took me an 40 min. because I don’t own a jig that does it for you.  It was actually a rather meditative process, though at times a bit frustrating.

Day 19: Unfinished Knot Bracelet

I tried to make a knot/friendship bracelet today and it didn’t turn out very well.  In fact, I stopped after nine or ten rows.  I used to make them a lot when I was a kid, but I guess I need some practice!  I had the perfect color combo of brick red, brown, and cream.  And the pattern was pretty neat too.  Maybe I’ll try a different pattern later.

I’ll have a quart of cream cheese with two bagels as handles on either side.

Apparently, this is what I ACTUALLY order at my bagel shop on the way to work as opposed to a “bagel with cream cheese”.

What I’m saying is they put too much cream cheese on bagels. Period.

If you don’t think so, YOU put too much cream cheese on your bagels. Period.

Perhaps bagelIERS were a race of simple people, cursed in the ancient times by a race of Cream Cheese goblins who told them they would be enslaved until they unloaded all of this creamy whitenes onto unsuspecting victims? This is the the only reason I can figure that the girl at my bagel shop refuses to listen to my desperate plea of “just a little, PLEASE!” This must be why she turns her back to me when she grabs that stainless steel vat, a shovel and starts unloading. The curse is the only explanation that makes sense.

Bagel-iers…I am sorry for whatever has happened to your people. But it is not right to unload your goblin curse on me so that I’m stuck on the train pulling pounds of cream cheese off of my bagel with the square inch of wax paper you give to me!

Please accept your ancestors’ lot in life and carry on.

Day 19: I want to drop kick my computer

thing-a-day-19.jpg I wanted to make dinosaur buttons today.  I thought it would be a good exercise to learn illustrator.  You know something small.  I HATE ILLUSTRATOR.  I got the lines done, wanted to blow up my computer, then gave up and switched to photoshop.  2.5 hours later the lamest unfinished button ever!  Anyone know any good tutorials for illustrator?

Communication

I wrote letters and put together packages today. I’m not going to post pictures on the very slight chance that someone might see the contents of a package I’m sending to them, but here’s my new stationary, isn’t it awesome?

a dream

I woke up from a dream that disoriented me for the rest of the day. I woke up in what I thought was my room.  This often happens.  I’m not really awake yet, it’s not my real room–it was a large gymnasium type room with high ceilings.  My bed was in the center.  I’m not quite sure but I think I more like a yo, a Korean style mat bed.

I looked around my room which had been completely transformed into a site specific installation piece.  I had painted the walls and made sculptural elements that bulged out out the floor and walls.  Pieces of burlap were layered and painted over in a messy way with white paint.  Crazy writing covered the walls, things I can’t quite remember, but they were juvenile scribblings with my name repeated over and over.  There were burns in the sculptures and  the whole room looked like the disturbed creations of a mentally ill artist.  Like someone who had been locked in a large studio, and this was the result of months of solitude.
