i’m back
Traveling for work and a death in the family (rest in peac grandpa) kept me away from this for about a week. I don’t want to give up, though…I figured that maybe I can cheat and make up for the lost week by doing several things a day. Today I did three; I will share two but not the third (a brochure about me for a PR class — my first experience with Publisher!) because it’s got my contact info all over it.
For now, though… a PhotoShopped version of a photo I took this afternoon. I call it “Impatience.”
And a poem, also about impatience for spring. (If you couldn’t tell, the above picture was of a shrub that budded prematurely — actually several weeks ago, I’ve been watching it — against the snow.)
this poem is called “honeysuckle”.
i noticed a place where the sidewalk ended
unexpectedly today.
the concrete yielded to a thin dirt path
scattered with pebbles
and the bones of trees;
it was covered in snow
and a layer of ice,
but underneath it all i saw
honeysuckle petals.
how long until spring sets them free?
i ask this,
and in the small blue hours before dawn,
songbirds start to herald the coming of
the sun.

Oh my gosh,
that looks _exactly_ where I used to live in Spokane!
Can I ask if you’re a washingtonian?
Wow, love the poem. I feel ya. The poem and pic are beautiful. I appreciate the sentiment.
RE thefabricator:
Nope, I am from Columbus, Ohio! Wouldn’t it be funny if that were the place you used to live, though?
Snow makes many places look alike…
aw, I guess you’re right about the snow!
oh well, still brought back warm memories, thanks
