Thing 7: A Coat in Progress
This is a coat that I’ve been working on since November. It’s a bit beyond my sewing skills, so I’ve had a lot of help. I’m using a ribless brown corduroy with a 1930s reproduction print cotton for the bias binding. Ribless corduroy is tough to work with! It moves around a lot.
Don’t worry, it’s not sleeveless! Here’s the pattern from Sandra Betzina, as featured by Vogue.

looks great so far - keep it up! and nice fabric selection…
It may be beyond your current sewing skills, but if you muddle your way through using a Vogue pattern, you will be way ahead of the game. I adore Vogue patterns - especially those attributed to a designer. There are more interesting lines and details in their patterns than most others. I still have all my old patterns from the 60s and 70s…plus my mother’s from the 40s and 50s..and even a couple from my grandmother that date back to the 20s. Hold onto your patterns…they really do come in handy later on.
Thanks for the encouragement, guys! I definitely plan on finishing this coat. When I will be wearing it is another issue altogether!
As for old patterns, I agree! I’m a vintage pattern collector myself. I’ve got several dozen. Good times!
