Day 5: Celtic Knots
I missed yesterday, but hope to make up for it later this week. Tonight I slammed out a knot in less than 15 minutes… but alas it shows rather badly.
I chose Sturrock #165 for my exemplar this time, the original looks like:
(and yes, I took the picture funny this time, you can see the page slanting away from the camera…)
I was quite pleased with my first “keeper”, even though I am still using the dreaded Prismacolor markers on the same paper, I felt this one was cleaner:
You can still see the “dots” where the marker leaked through… but the general shape of the lines and spacing is very good, I think.
Alas, that one went so well I got cocky, and decided to try and slam out the “fancy” one, this time doing double-lines on the same size knot, not the double-size ones I had been doing. The result was, well, far less than ideal, I fear:
Hmm, it doesn’t help that the picture itself is slanted… but that hardly hides the problems here. The double lines bled into each other (doy! could have predicted that one!), meaning the knot weave is not clear in most of the intersections… and the line consistency, well, isn’t, and the circles aren’t the same by far, and, well… it’s a mess. I do kind of like the red-dotting and the background hash, I thought that worked out well (and looks even better on the original)… but overall, this totally comes off as a rush job.
Good Stuff: got it done, background and dotting are nice, I like this knot a lot - it was a lot easier, even though it seems as complicated as the others
Bad Stuff: too fast on the second one, pretty much trashed it; STILL gotta figure out what to do about markers/paper.
Lessons learned: Slow down. taking a few more minutes on the second one might have helped a lot, and I still would have been done on time. (though 11:53 was pretty darned close!) Do something about markers/paper, or I will keep running into the same problems over and over and over…
Total time for knots: 15 mins (ahem…)
Total time to post: 25 mins ( TaD was loading files really slowly… maybe my connection, or could it be Super Tuesday traffic?
As I said, I really do like this knot, and am likely to more like it in the next few days. So many cool sections of Sturrock to check out… *grin*
