could you explain to me what Faschnacht is? I saw it mentioned on another messageboard I read, but I haven’t the faintest. I want to be involved in a holiday that counts those tasty things as tradition!
okay, i’ll try:
Fasching is the time between 11th November and February, and it’s mainly something like carneval. It marks the time before so called “Fastenzeit”, and “Fastnacht” is the same thing, but it’s only used in some regions of Germany and Austria. Fastenzeit is the 40 days before Easter Sunday, it’s a Christian tradition where people originally had to eat less. Some still do this, but more the way like reduce sweets or cigarettes or alcohol.
well, that’s all i know about it, i’m not too much into it since childhood and love for masquerade is over
the only thing that i still love about it is my faschingskrapfen, the seasonal bakery. it’s similar to a donut, but without a whole and with a lot of apricot jam in it….yummie…
