As my thing for today, I ran a five-hour storytelling session (Ars Magica, for the gamers in the crowd) with my partner. He wrote about it here. Also group photo, minus the two people who were cleaning up pizza boxes at the time!
The official round of thing-a-day is done. Thank you all for your incredible work and see you next year!

more yarn felt and an attempt at woven yarn
Today I made another piece of felt using gray Colinette Point 5 yarn wet-felted on black merino roving. I also experimented with weaving bulky thick and thin yarn on top of roving and then wet-felting the entire assemblage. The resulting piece of felt was a bit messy and perhaps more colorful than I would have liked. But it does have a neat woven texture. More experiments to come…

More website, and a picture this time!
More working on my website tonight - the shop works now, and I congratulate myself on the use of the phrase “Ponzi Schemes?” on my contact page. Yippee!
Day 5: Lomo’ed Photos
I have a Diana+ camera, but I haven’t been able to get too many good photos out of it when it’s cloudy–which is to say, for about the past MONTH. I found this Photoshop tutorial that gives you a similar effect. I gave it a try on some old photos. Here’s one of my favorites; the rest are in a set on Flickr.
The realities of life.
Today I had to settle for making some curry and rice and broccoli for my thing-a-day. Work lasted too long, and I’m too tired to work on the logo. But, that curry was delecious! I’m finally starting to get the hang of making Indian food.
Ars Magica
Today’s Ars Magica session was my thing. This was the first full (non-character creation) session of our game. Everyone is still apprentices. And we just had an all apprentice hazing fight as part of the Bjornaer initiation. Cause it was funny. I know its a good game when people are still hanging around an hour after session ended. Here is part of the gang:
Origami book
Thing 5 is a little origami book, made by following instructions from this origami site. It’s about 2 inches square, and I haven’t written anything in it yet. There are instructions at instructables.com for a nicer looking one I might try next - I could use actual origami paper for that, this one was made from the wrapping paper from a department store called New Yaohan, which came wrapped around some glasses I bought.

a letter
Today I wrote a letter to my grandmother in Japan. She is 85 yrs old and is one tough cookie.
Day 5
I have a beautiful picture frame that was given to me by a good friend. It has stained glass around the edges that says “Hottie” on the top and flames on the sides and bottom. I happened to run across the perfect picture for it today. It’s the only surviving picture of me and my husband, 20 years ago, when we were married in the nude! Boy was I skinny and gorgeous back then! LOL!
I know it’s not much, but luckily I was able to accomplish that, as I have been sick with this damn flu all day. Also, I have a cheap tiny $10 digital camera (it doesn’t take very good pics), that I hope to mess around with so I can start posting pictures.
I did two things today!
I should probably save this for tomorrow in case I don’t get to make anything, lol.
I started a craft blog. Only one post so far, an intro post, but you get the idea.
I think tomorrow I’ll do a tutorial on how to make wire-wrapped rings.
Day 05 of 29: Mini Sculpey™ Avocado day 1
My pal dissed my Super Sunday breakfast plan (can-o-hash) and she must craft me a felty can of hash as “penance.” I agreed to make her some ittybitty avocados to be nice. It will be a mulit-day Thing-a-day project. Here’s the proto-Sculpey™ avocado.

Got the texture from pressing pre-fired avo-blob against old man REAL avocado (not pictured.)

Here they all are … safety razor in for scale. There are two halves w/ pits to be glued on later. I’ll carve out the voids from the opposite halves too. There is also a whole avo w/ its crazy semi-side stem.

First coat of acrylic paint. The skin gets dioxidine purple that I’ll go over with a different dark color. I swear I see purple in old man REAL avocado’s skin. OOF split pits got a mix of hansa yellow and raw sienna first. Thus endeth TAD Day 5 of 29 / avo.dev day 1.

Peace out!

Thing 5: Origami Critters
Today I learned to make some origami animals (instructions from the 2008 Origami A Day calendar), which is a new skill for me. Fun and pretty easy once I figured out how to interpret the pictograph instructions…
Do as Ms. Kitty.
just a simple little thought for you when the days are tough, and you don’t know
what to do….do what ms. kitty does . . .

Don’t Worry, Be Happy!
DAY 4 & 5: food poisoning wins all
I’m down in Anaheim for a work trip, and somehow managed to get food poisoning. I haven’t left my bed in over 8 hours, and feel like I’ve been getting my ass kicked by an invisible hand all day. And I didn’t even get to go into Disneyland at all, which was the point of this whole stupid trip!
UGH. UGH. UGH
There you have it– no new sketches from me until tomorrow, if all goes well. This sucks.
