Improv crafting? Or, challenge me.

Oddly enough, I had an idea about doing a crafting blog before I heard about this project. Here is proof.

Here’s my dilemma - I can do crafty projects, but I’d like a challenge. I want to have someone give me a theme, material, or item to make, or all three, and see what I can do with that. My only caveat would be that materials can’t be expensive or hard to get (no diamonds, eh?) and no advanced skills, like electronics.

Anyone want to challenge me?

Jan. 30, 2008. First time?

I don’t really know what I will do, probably like most people who signed up for this thing-a-day activity. i think it will help motivate me to actually work on things though, since i’ve been a bit lazy lately with my crafting and sewing times.  -tracy c.

Feels like the night before Christmas…

I feel giddy with excitement knowing we are but one sleep away from February first.

I do hope to indulge in some fresh creative stuff this month but most of all I’d like to tackle my UFO colleciton - that’s UnFinished Objects.

My heart will always belong to the traditional/domestic arts but I’m easily influenced and often flirt with other creative tools including the paint brush and the computer.

I live in Christchurch, New Zealand and look forward to working with. Yes, you.

With over 1,000 people signed up, the creativity’s is going to be unreal!Just in case this site is super busy (to say the least), I’m going to give out the URL for the two other places that I’ll be posting pictures:     http://avoncalling.wordpress.com/ and www.flickr.com/photos/hi_there_from_orion

What I’ll be doing

I’ve been working on getting all the areas I want to know more about organized.  Over the holidays, I developed a sudden need to get serious about learning more.  Maybe I’m missing grad school (20 years later) or maybe it’s that I recently turned 50. In any case, my February Thing-a-day will be to explore some area of knowledge that I want to expand on later.  We’ll see how that turns out.

I’m In.

I was forced encouraged to do this by my friends Venus and Random Nicole. But I have come to terms with the idea and am actually pretty excited. My personal goal is to - at the very minimum - create a photo journal for February consisting of at least one photo every day. If I create something else that day I will take a photo of that as well.

Happy creation, everyone!

About time I did something, I guess

I host a radio show. I have a blog. The two haven’t met since September 2006. I talk to interesting and fascinating people from all over the world. Radio is cruel because once its said, it is gone, out into endless space. I reckon it’s about time I stopped faffing about and captured the magic everyday on my blog.

Thats the intention, and it starts tomorrow…

well, here goes nothin’….

yikes, what have I done?! I’m not much of a daily crafter, but I guess that’s the point of signing up for this. Most of my making is traditionally focused around Halloween (best. holiday. ever!). I usually spend mad hours of time in the two to three months before Halloween making stuff for our party, and then more or less take the rest of the year off. I occasionally get the urge to make something non-Halloween related, as the many random WIP lying abandoned in my office can atest to.  Sometimes I even finish them. But it’s been a while since my last (completed) project - hence signing up for this.

So, I’ve got a bunch of little, non-time-consuming projects to do on the days when time will be an issue, mainly some papercraft toys, some decorative masks, and such. I’m also hoping to cook something new at least once a week to kill a couple of my days (and up my sugar intake - cookies, and cupcakes, and candy, oh my!).  And I’m planning on working on a couple of sewing projects I’ve been meaning to start for a couple of months now, including: a dust ruffle for my bed, a duvet cover, and valance for my bed’s canopy (leftover from last year’s Halloween decorations, and still draped in black fabric - time to change that!)

I think the thing that’s got me most nervous about this is writing a daily blog post. It might turn out to be an every-other-day blog post, but I’ll try to talk about each project and post pictures (supposing I can figure out how to do such a thing, of course). Anyway, I’ve never blogged before, so y’all should let me know if I’m rambling too much (like right now, for instance :)

I’m glad I’ve signed up for this, and I hope to get to know all of you and get inspired by all of your wonderful projects.

Till Friday, my dears. Ta-ta.

testing. + goals.

During January, I promised myself that I’d go to the thrice-a-week figure drawing sessions offered by my school. That didn’t happen, so I’m going to try to make the same resolution for February. So hopefully every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, I’ll have sketches of naked people.

On the other days, I’m going to try to balance between minicomics, random doodles, life drawing, experimenting with watercolor and gouache, digital sketches in Photoshop or Painter, and hand-drawn type. I’ve also resolved to practice playing ocarina daily, but I don’t know if that’ll make it up here. Maybe I’ll try some cooking too. If I have any particularly exciting dreams in February, then I’ll write them up.

I have Wintersession finals in the start of February, then a week-long break, followed by the start of spring semester… as such, I’m going to really make an effort to not stress out too much about this. That doesn’t mean I’m not taking it seriously, but, if I worry too much, it’s going to affect my schoolwork. I have troubles with anxiety when it comes to artwork, and I really want this to be a constructive project, so… I guess I just need to find the right frame of mind. I think it’s good to be fairly lighthearted about this kind of thing!

So, good luck to everyone.

Laptop backpack (prep)

I’ve got the supplies for my first project: a protective laptop backpack: foam, fabric, and trimmings.  I’ve also got the frame built from craft foam and ducttape.  It’s larger than I thought.

I’ll post photos as soon my camera recharges.

I still need old socks to make a sock-viking (project 2)

Lets do this!!!

I had already decided that February had to be the month that I really kicked myself up the arse and sewed like a woman possessed but I’m gonna go ahead and admit to you that sometimes I can be a bit flitty, starting ten things and finishing nothing!!! This is bad for a woman who works for herself. More than anything I need organisation. My head is like a badly neglected attic with boxes and boxes of junk overflowing and swallowing up the important stuff. By committing to this project I’m hoping to give myself focus.

I’m gonna say from the off that earrings (unless super elaborate works of art) are not allowed by me. They don’t count because putting charms onto a couple of jump rings and fish hooks isn’t a real challenge and I’m not letting myself off that easy. If I’m gonna do this then I’m gonna do it properly. Let’s hope I make myself proud.

Oh and good luck to everyone who is taking part.

well, i’m taking the plunge for this year’s thing-a-day. should be fun.

is it considered breaking the rules if i work on a bigger thing over two or more days, assuming i do some work on it each day? or is that okay?

let’s rock this shit

Okay. I’m going to do it. I’m hesitant because I forget things easily. Like, shit, I just remembered that I forgot to take my birth control pill today- just swallowed it, four hours later than I meant to- and I also forgot to pick up a hoodie I ordered. I had both of those things written on my hand!  I think I can create something every day. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can… *is a train*

Product Vs. Production

I love the idea of making things but often get overwhelmed (or underwhelmed by my efforts, anyway) by the process. I hope that producing something for 29 (go leap year!) straight days will help me finish other projects. I’m really looking forward to the challenge of thinking of something to make and making it every day.

What have I gotten myself into?

I just realized today that my BIL & niece will be visiting for the first week of February, giving me that much less time to create stuff. My BIL is great for looking over shoulders and saying “What cha doin’?” Aargh! I guess I’ll be starting small with a bunch of ATC’s.
