it is time for me to do a painting a day. i first heard of this concept from an artist friend: her website is @ clairebcotts.com. she actually has a “painting a day” blog. i wanted to do it too, but there was no time. oh yeah, and i was scared.
i just got an email from a writer friend who thought of me when she heard about thing-a-day.com. probably because we write 50,000 words every November (about 1667 words a day) with the thousands of other novelists that participate in National Novel Writing Month (nanowrimo.org).
so here we go. february it is. here’s to creativity and getting messy! here’s to not using capital letters in the beginning of sentences, and allowing ourselves to make mistakes. yeah.

Hello all. I found you all on LiveJournal’s, uh, something-or-other community.
My own thing today was working on two novellae (novellas? the heck with that, I like novellae better). When I get some more written, I’ll be looking for beta-testers.
My other thing recently is developing a LOST (the TV show)-based card game, on par with things like Magic the Gathering and that ilk.
Hey: does anyone here know where I can get really super-cheap bulk USB flash drives? I’m looking for about 50, but only need around 128 MB of storage. It’s for anothe potential project of mine.
Yay!

I don’t know what kind of things I’ll be submitting. I try to be creative in all forms. Mostly collages, photographs, and writing especially. I might try some videos near the end, not really sure. I just want to experiment and do what I can best.
“I roamed the countryside searching for answers to things I did not understand. Why shells exist on the tops of mountains along with imprints of plants usually found in the sea. Why thunder lasts longer than that which causes it. How circles of water form around the spot which has been struck by a stone. And how a bird suspends itself in the air. Questions like these engaged my thoughts throughout my life.”

What shall I do for this challenge? Knit and crochet? Sew and embroider? Cook and bake? Lots of little projects, or small steps to a big special project? All of the above? None of the above? Sooooo many choices, I can’t believe it. Maybe I better journal about it? Maybe organizing projects. Finish wip’s? Working at camp? Pampering projects? Gift projects? Charity projects? Oh, what to do….

seems interesting, funny creative and challenging…
i’m going to move to my first very own appartment on february 1st, so i’m sure there’s a lot of ideas to discover in this community i can use to make my new home a comfortable and fun place to hang out at.
really looking forward to it

I never thought I’d be looking forward to February so much…The most jaded month of the year, where winter has past its being cute phase and moves into its gross and groggy dragging on phase…
But hey, I guess that’s why we’re doing this right? To make the best of the worst…And I’m so very excited..
Last year was a year of self-improvements, ditching bad habits and self-destructiveness… and somehow I found very little time to be creative…This is just the sort of thing I need to get me going in a good direction of creation this year…

This is the first time I have heard of this. I don’t know exactly what I’ll be doing each day. I want to do a comic everyday, and maybe a video podcast on others. I just want to get something done every day! Yay!

Well, that’s okay, I need to locate some supplies first anyhow…they’re somewhere or other in the house. I think.
This is GREAT. Exactly the kick in the ass I need to develop a habit of making time to create, even though the one-whole-project-every-day business doesn’t fit my usual intended projects. (That would be writing as a major form and knitting as a minor art. Minor the way I do it, anyhow.) So I expect to try for 28/9 little drawings…or on days when that doesn’t work, a paragraph or so…or a swatch of trying out knitting stitches…or if it all falls apart, I could try a new recipe. But you’ll have to imagine the taste.
Good luck, everybody. Let’s bury the internets ten feet deep in creativity.

hi! i’m a first timer here and just moved into my first apartment (and now writing my first post), so this is the perfect excuse to get creative and do some decorating, designing, crafting, and cooking!
i’m always open to tips and suggestions - the simpler the better

My friend Tasha told me about this, after she got roped in by our friend Angelique. Tasha wants to do some writing, so I told her I’d give her a list of ten words each day to use as a jumping-off point for little writing exercises.
I’ve enjoyed thinking about what sort of lists I might write, and have decided to make those lists a daily opportunity to be creative — so here I am, registered and ready to go.

I really can’t figure out how this works. Do we post daily stuff here? On our own blogs and link to them? What?

I’m baffled…
edit/update: less baffled now. Think I’ve got a handle on this thing…..

I finally decided to sign up after thinking about it for a week. One of my resolutions of the year was to be more active in creating things, so why not join in?! I’m just hoping I can keep up with it. I have no idea what types of things I’ll be doing, but I hope to make something interesting everyday and use the time to free-think and put ideas I never pay attention to down in physical form of some sort. I might also have some planned projects to share as well, but most likely not the type to be finished in one day.
A few facts about me that may give you some insight to my personality: I’m an illustrator and a designer. I recently learned how to knit. I have been absolutely addicted to Kidrobot’s MUNNY dolls. I ride a Genuine Stella (a modern, vintage Vespa clone– if you aren’t familiar).
Anyway, can’t wait to see what gets produced!!!

Oh my gosh, what have I done - I actually signed up for this thing a day! What was I thinking! Barely two days to think about how to get started…YIKES

Well, this sounds like an interesting challenge. I’m wondering if something like “creating a new makeup look” counts? Well, in my world it does! I’d like to try to create something really daring and different, and since I’m not good at crafty things this is one of the hands-on ways I like to “create art” so to speak.
Here’s a little bit more about me: I’m 25/f living in the UK, but born and bred a Canadian. I’m into writing of the journalistic sort, but I’d like to get back into creative writing. Also, I enjoy photojournalism and have just started cooking, so those will be the main mediums for this challenge. Crafts/knitting/sewing aren’t my things, and I’m terrible at art, although I might try the odd drawing or collage. Please don’t laugh at my skills! Hopefully this will get my creative juices flowing during my dull times at work and also document my time abroad.
Good luck everyone and I look forward to seeing your work! I bet the things we create will inspire one another to try something new.

This is that euphoric moment between the time I set out to do this thing-a-day and when my overwhelming laziness realizes what I’m asking it to do.
