Okay, it’s January 27th and I’ve decided to do this. Even though I am the inventory manager Crate and Barrel store #115, and our bi-annual inventory is Feb. 2. So, it may be a slow start.
But I’m committing myself to this because:
- it’s good for the creative spirit
- I need to sketch more, and I plan on several of my “things” to be sketches
- it will help me learn wordpress (which I want to start experimenting with on my own website)

Thanks to user dyslexia’s idea, I’ve set up a “Thing-a-Day” group on Ravelry - a knitting & crochet site.
Anyone can join so do so if you’re a member on there.

My plan for this week:
- Sit down with a stack of my old crafting magazines (ReadyMade, Somerset Studio, ClothPaperScissors, Blueprint);
- Put post-it tabs on techniques and projects I want to try;
- Make a supplies list and make sure I have everything I might need;
- Count up projects and hope it adds up to 29!

It would be a good idea to get a few ideas down on paper, wouldn’t it?
- Scrap patchwork for card-making. I can imagine sewing up a massive piece of crazy patchwork and then hacking it up again to insert in ready-made card ‘blanks’. That would be satisfying!
- And similarly, making place-mats and coasters out of crazy patchwork.
- I recently saw a pattern for making fabric beads out of scrap fabric and cotton wool which I’d like to try out.
- I’d love to have (another) go at knitting and crocheting - not my strong points.
- And perhaps try my hand at writing some short (very short!) stories or poems.
Hmmm…lots of nice things to think about. And looking forward to being inspired by what everyone else produces. Roll on February!

I’m signing up for this thing because I need to work on my creative outlets. I’m writing up a PhD thesis at the moment, and feel I could really benefit from doing something different everyday. And 20 mins min. sounds achievable. So, I have my sewing machine and an enormous bag of scrap fabric on standby. Let the adventure begin!

Starting to get prepared and looking forward to making many tangible things.

I’m a little nervous about coming up with 29 different things and completing them. I know they can be smallish. I’m trying NOT to think about everyone elses things being better than mine, thats not the point and I don’t want to be derailed by that.
I’ve seen a few of my friends on the participation list so that is very fun.

I see there are a number of knitters participating. Are any of you currently on Ravelry? Anyone interested in a Thing A Day group over there?
Update: mellowbeing made one — http://www.ravelry.com/groups/thing-a-day

A thing a day? Really? Hopefully I can keep it up for a month. But if I start posting how my thing that day was “I tied my shoes this morning, here’s a photo of my feet”, know that I’m completely uninspired. I have a few ideas, though, so I’m not completely unprepared. Plus I’m a bit of a dilletante, so I have quite a few tricks up my sleeve…

Hello folks,
I joined this forum from the reference of a friend who also joined. I know I do something creative every day, but I am looking forward to making my creativity intentional and also sharing it with others.
I know that Thing-a-day doesn’t really start until Feb 1st, but I’m making candy mints today for a baby shower. I have to dye the candy and decorate the mints. My daughter (18)and I will be working on this together, then going to the shower.
Happy Creating!
