Hi - i’m in Decatur, GA, and although i have a ton of craft stuff, i haven’t been crafting much lately, so when i saw a post about thing-a-day, i thought it would be the perfect opportunity.

my goal is to do small projects, and to at least do *something* every day, so that i’m focusing time and energy on crafts every day.

i’ve gone through a book of papercrafts that i have, and hopefully will be taking a couple of projects out of there, and i’ve also got some ideas saved that i’ve wanted to try.  i’d like to learn new things, and allow this to be an opportunity to just *try* stuff, without worrying about the final product - to give myself permission to explore new crafts.

hello!

Hi!

First, a little about me - I’m a photographer, a seamstress (learning) and a fine artist.  I’m very excited about this project.  I’m a member of the SCA as well, so there’ll be a lot of sewing in my near future because I’ve just changed my persona and so need to redo my wardrobe.

Can’t wait to get started!

How did I end up here again?

Well, I’m committed.  I’m going to make one thing a day, despite the fact that I’m at least half convinced I can’t do it.

I have a couple people egging me on.  My friend J is going to give me 10 words a day in February, and I’ll try to create useful writing out of this.  Of course, her vocabulary is scarily more large than mine.   I’m going to tell myself it’s a learning experience.

My plan is pretty simple.  I’m going to bake, I’m going to cook, and I’m going to write.  I may also knit or crochet, but I need a teacher for those.  I did crochet a little once before, and I’d like to do it again, but I will need a refresher course.  I’ve never knitted.  I also plan to give myself a little leeway to do whatever.

So, for now, there will be 5-10 days of baking, 5-10 of cooking, and an unknown number of storytelling.  All else is up for grabs.

I miss my friend E.  I’ve lost touch with her, and would love to have her to show me how to use all these seed beads.  But they are also effective currency for me later in life, so I am not disappointed.

As for A, who started this whole thing, there are no words.  She’s an ambitious soul, and good for a kick in the butt when needed.  How did I end up here again?  She got me considering it and J threw in her weight supporting A (as well as being impressed with A).

I’m a sucker for pressure and feedback.  What can I say?

Realizing that I need to work to feel really inspired, I’m tackling this for the month of February. I’m anxious and excited! I can’t wait to see what everyone brings to the table. I’m just happy to be here.

Jumping in…

Just saw this today and I’m jumping in with both feet! Not sure what i’ll create yet, but I suspect there will be a lot of ATC’s done on busier days. I recently picked up Living Out Loud so maybe I’ll work on an art journal of some of those exercises, with a few collage days thrown in I hope. What will I do to get organized? Simply make sure I have materials on hand to work with. I’ll be going through some photos and making photocopies, maybe buy a few art supplies. I don’t really need much of an excuse to buy more paint!

I have so many ideas rushing through my head…

The ideas are just dancing inside my head…the big question is what should be my first project?

Signed up and ready to go

Well, I have signed up to make the commitment. I love the idea and know that I would not have the motivation to keep going without the need to post something every day.

Jumping in

C’est moi

I’m a long-time maker and tinkerer who primarily uses recycled/reclaimed materials to make art and other objects of fancy. I work with paper, glue, old boxes, ephemera, and old pieces of hardware (computer and construction) and usually have a paint stain or two somewhere on my person.

I’m almost thirty and live in Florida with my husband, brother, a terrier and three cats. I have two degrees and work with nonprofits as a day job; it’s really a privilege for my career to be as much of a passion as my creating.

The plan, such as it is

1. To do a 1×1-inch sketch every day. I’m not much of a drawer, but I started these one-inch things once before and was impressed with the way your skills increase if you keep at it enough. I’ll never be able to sell my drawings, but it is something I’d like to get better at just for my own pleasure.

2.  To make one other thing every day:  an ATC, a book mark, a well-thought out post to my new creativity blog. I also have a few of those devilish to-do projects hanging around that just  need to be completed and to stop hanging over my head. I plan to use Thing-a-day as a motivation to accomplish those, too.

hello!

This is my first go at this and my little creative juices are excited and giddy, while the rest of me sits nervously wondering, “can she do this?” Ah .. we shall see. But seriously, I am truly looking forward to February!

Greetings!

Like so many others, I’m just trying this thing out. While I wouldn’t jump off a bridge just because my friends are, I am following a friend into this project. I think it’ll be fun. And it’s a good chance for me to try out WordPress, as there’s a totally unrelated project I’m involved with that may migrate to WordPress in a few months.

I’m a 35 year old in Raleigh, NC. I’ll probably make postcards, ATCs, cook, maybe knit, probably crochet and do some tiny tatted things. Other than that, I have no plans so far :)

Enjoy!

Hey there!

Hey there,

Excited to be joining this but a bit apprehensive too. Still thinking about what I’ll be making but I have a feeling that it will involve ribbon at some point.
